The Missouri S&T Rock Characterization Laboratory supports and performs cutting edge research in the areas of geochemical rock characterization, physical rock property measurements and rock strength characterization. The lab houses a variety of modern equipment including an XRF instrument, an ICP-MS, high resolution microscopes, porosimeters/permeameters, high pressure core cells, and uniaxial and triaxial strength testing equipment.

  • Assist faculty and graduate students in conducting laboratory-based research using the S&T Rock Characterization Laboratory equipment.
  • Collaborate with faculty to conduct exploratory research in rock characterization, including publications and the submission of grant proposals.
  • Mentor graduate students in performing laboratory experiments and analyzing data.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, including establishing user training and safety guidelines, ensuring quality, troubleshooting methods and procedures, and handling equipment service and repair.
  • Maintain the inventory of laboratory supplies, including placing and extending orders for supplies and verifying their receipt.
Minimum Qualifications
    Familiarity with a laboratory environment and instrumentationExperience with geochemical and petrophysical analyses techniquesExperience with rock strength measurements and characterizationTrack record of research achievement, including peer-reviewed publicationsComputer knowledge and skills in lab information systems is desirableMSc in the geosciences or a closely related discipline
