Description of Position

Hiring rate: minimum wage

***Two positions open; one in Welded Metals and one in the Woodworking.***
Under the guidance and direction of the Visual Art Department Chair, the lab assistant assists in supporting the educational purposes of the 3D Visual Art program. Keep the welded metal and or wood shop clean, safe and orderly for the instructors, students and other lab assistants.

Welded Metal Lab Tech
  • Assist in overseeing the condition of all equipment in the studio and metal yard (TIG welding, MIG welding, bending machines, etc.)
  • Oversee open lab times and assist students as appropriate to their current instruction
  • Keep Inventory of materials.
  • Receive and distribute deliveries of various materials
  • Other duties as assigned
Woodworking Lab Tech
  • Assist in overseeing the condition of all equipment in the wood shop (bandsaws, table saws, routers, jointers, lathes, sanders, etc.
  • Oversee open lab times and assist students as appropriate to their current instruction
  • Keep Inventory of materials.
  • Receive and distribute deliveries of various materials
  • Other duties as assigned
Applications reviewed when received Minimum Expectations & Requirements

Experience in the Welded metal or woodworking processes. Assist instructors with monitoring student safety and keeping equipment operational.

  • Lift heavy weights of 50-100lbs alone or with assistance
  • Work in an environment where safety is paramount and wear appropriate safety masks, glasses, etc.
Preferred Skills & Abilities

  • Background in visual arts and design.
