Description:

Under general direction, the Coordinator, Staff Relations and Office of the COO works independently to provide a range of Division of University Advancement (DUA) HR services for the Office of the Chief Operating Officer in the areas of recruitment, job description drafting and updates, salary administration, special projects and office administration. Key responsibilities include providing front-line advice and information to staff regarding employment policies and collective agreement provisions; coordinating recruitment activities for USW, PM and AP positions; assisting with the development and implementation of proactive recruitment strategies; using discretion to handle very confidential information in an appropriate manner and to refer more complex queries as appropriate; managing in-person inquiries; provides administrative support to the Chief Operating Officer and Associate Director; and maintains up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and of University policies and procedures.

Essential Qualifications:

(MINIMUM)

Education:

University degree in a relevant discipline, plus completion of related professional development courses in pursuit of CHRP designation, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:

Two to three (2-3) years’ progressive human resources experience, preferably with experience in the areas of: recruitment, equity and diversity, collective agreement interpretation, training and development; Knowledge of and experience using an on-line recruitment system and experience in sourcing candidates essential, preferably experience with using social media recruitment tools; Experience screening resumes and the principles of behavioral based interviewing.

Skills:

Keyboarding skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel; Experience with Visio an asset; Experience with HRIS an asset.

Other:

Demonstrated organizational and interpersonal skills; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Ability to maintain strict confidentiality, exercise good judgment and constantly exhibit tact and diplomacy; Attention to detail; Demonstrated problem solving skills; Ability to manage a fluctuating workload under pressure and to meet deadlines; Ability to work effectively as part of a team; Exceptional client focus with an awareness of and sensitivity to diversity.
