Description
The Temple Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math & Science programs are federally-funded college access programs designed to provide first-generation, low-income, and/or students at academic risk the supports needed to pursue and be successful through a college degree. The programs operate year-round and consist of after-school tutoring and college access programming, academic instruction and enrichment, and a six-week summer program that culminates with a multi-day trip touring college campuses.

The math instructor must establish course goals in the principles of a given math course and create lesson plans to help pupils develop critical-thinking abilities by gaining an understanding of mathematical concepts. Instructors should be knowledgeable in Mathematical concepts from Algebra 1 through Pre-Calculus 2. Class should include differentiated instruction, incorporate technology, and apply a given concept to a real-life situation. The instructor should be prepared to transition from in-person to virtual instruction as needed. Perform other duties as assigned


Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in relevant major or teaching area or professional certification equivalent and minimum of two (2) year of teaching experience. Experience working with a diverse range of high school students, including those from low-income, first generation college backgrounds.Experience in developing course curricula (creating lesson plans and activities). An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. 

Required Skills & Abilities:
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Demonstrated ability to handle and prioritize diverse tasks in a fast-paced environment
* Ability to work in MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel and Google Docs/Google Classroom
* Ability to work weekday late afternoons and evenings Monday through Friday (approximately 3:30-6pm, virtually only, for the time being); class may switch to in-person offerings on Saturdays 8:30am-1:30pm at a later time.
* Ability to undergo Child Abuse Certification process prior to first day of work.  
* Employees must obtain the Child Abuse Certifications listed below and complete a Disclosure Statement to satisfy the requirements to work with minors on campus:

Preferred:
* Experience in overcoming academic and/or economic barriers
* Experience with virtual teaching via Zoom and Canvas


This position requires a background check.
This position requires Child Abuse Certifications prior to the commencement of service.
This is a grant funded position.
