Position Information: Description The Department of Chemistry at the University of North Dakota invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin January 1, 2023, contingent upon available funding.

The Chemistry Department is housed in the College of Arts & Sciences and offers an ACS-certified B.S. degree, B.S./M.S. and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees.

Duties & Responsibilities The successful candidate will be expected to establish a nationally recognized research program with significant external funding in the broad area of chemical transformations involving low-dimensional materials. Expectation also includes alignment with research goals of the UND Grand Challenge, “Energy and Environmental Sustainability” https://und.edu/research/grand-challenges/ or with Space Initiative.

The successful applicant will receive a contract with an approximate effort distribution of 30% teaching; 60% research; 10% service. Teaching responsibilities include graduate and/or undergraduate courses in physical chemistry, supervision of graduate and undergraduate research students, with an anticipated load of 2 courses per academic year. Interest in the development of online coursework as well as technical expertise in electron microscopy are considered favorable. Candidates with research interests that complement those of current faculty are especially encouraged to apply.

Minimum Requirements

Earned Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Material Science, Physics, or related field by August 15, 2022Successful completion of criminal history records check

Minimum Hiring Salary Salary and start-up package are competitive.

Work Schedule/Start Date Position is full-time, benefitted and exempt. Dates of initial contract are January 1, 2023 to May 15, 2023. Dates of 9-month contract for subsequent years will be August 16 through May 15.
