Description:

The Resource Management Librarian (RML) manages access, maintenance, and assessment of Kaufman Library’s electronic resources and coordinates activities related to the maintenance and development of the library’s catalog. The RML recommends, implements, and evaluates workflows and strategies related to cataloging and electronic resource management and helps improve and document departmental procedures and policies. The RML may supervise staff depending upon departmental needs. This faculty, non-tenure track position reports to the Head of Collections.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Manage electronic resource access within the discovery service, knowledge base, link resolver, and other library systems; work cooperatively with Systems Librarian and campus IT to troubleshoot and resolve electronic resource access problems
  • Develop preventative maintenance workflows to identify electronic resource access issues before they become problems for users
  • Keep library staff and faculty informed about new resources, changes to existing resources, and resource outages
  • Develop vendor and publisher relationships; act as primary point of communications with vendors, publishers, consortia, and library faculty/staff for access to electronic resources
  • Manage electronic resource usage statistics collection and analysis to support collection management and reporting
  • Maintain awareness of current and emerging trends and technologies related to electronic resources
  • Supervise the cataloging and processing of library resources, including reviewing and editing the cataloging prepared by department staff and other librarians; spot-check physical processing
  • Work with the Head of Collections to document policies, workflows, and procedures
  • Supervise a Library Technical Assistant
  • Pursue professional growth and development related to job functions
  • Serve as library liaison to one or more discipline areas
  • Participate in Library and College committees
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • ALA-accredited master’s degree in library or information science
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in electronic resource acquisition, cataloging, or management with demonstrated knowledge of troubleshooting electronic resource access
  • Evidence of experience with OpenAthens
  • Evidence of experience evaluating and analyzing electronic resource usage, including working knowledge of COUNTER
  • Evidence of experience with e-journal and e-book management issues
  • Evidence of knowledge of current trends and developments in managing electronic resources
  • Evidence of experience with integrated library systems
  • Evidence of proficiency with spreadsheets and databases
  • Evidence of knowledge of national cataloging standards and Library of Congress Subject Headings
  • Evidence of strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills
  • Evidence of ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a diverse environment
  • Evidence of ability to work as a member of a team as well as independently
  • Evidence of high degree of facility with computers in a Windows environment
  • Evidence of strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Evidence of commitment to quality internal and external customer service

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated experience with Ex Libris Alma system
  • Demonstrated experience supervising staff and/or student workers
  • Demonstrated experience working with SUSHI harvesting
  • Demonstrated knowledge of serials publishers and vendors; experience with serials acquisitions
  • Demonstrated knowledge of database applications and manipulating large datasets
  • Demonstrated awareness of emerging standards for resource description
  • Demonstrated experience working in an academic or research library
  • Demonstrated experience working in a library consortium environment
  • Demonstrated supervisory training or experience
  • Demonstrated project management experience
