Job Summary
Columbus State University has an opening for a Communications Officer located in University Police. The successful candidate will receive emergency and non-emergency requests for law enforcement related assistance and must determine the nature, urgency, and appropriate priority for each call for service. This position is the vital link between the field and the university community, and requires an enormous degree of initiative and independent judgment within procedural boundaries to provide timely, efficient, and effective communications between the public and officers in the field.

Responsibilities
The selected candidate will receive emergency and non-emergency calls for service and dispatch requests for service to field units. The successful candidate will monitor two-way radio traffic and remain in constant contact with officers in the field; maintain records of shift activity; respond to field units requests for information; monitor security systems such as fire and closed circuit surveillance systems and respond to such alarms; provide directions and assistance for responding emergency support units and the public; confirm warrants, GCIC, and NCIC entries; broadcast alert messages sent by allied law enforcement agencies; and all other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include a High school diploma or GED; completion of Georgia POST communication officer certification or ability to obtain certification; and no felony convictions or crimes of moral turpitude. The selected candidate must have extensive knowledge of Federal Communication's Rules and Regulations as well as knowledge of NCIC and GCIC Rules and Regulations. The successful candidate must be able to work for prolonged periods at a communication console; possess the ability to remain calm with the public at all times in emergencies and handle stressful situations; possess a high level of trust and integrity; possess the ability to handle multiple tasks with efficient and effective decision-making; follow directions from a supervisor; maintain required certification and training standards; and possess the ability to work shifts that support a 24 hour operation.

Proposed Salary
The salary range is $27,868 - $31,351 and includes full benefits.
