Responsibilities:

The Associate Dean of Academic Studies reports to the Dean of Academic Studies and is responsible for providing support and leadership in the areas of planning, budgeting, curriculum development, professional development, faculty evaluation, and student relations. The Associate Dean supports academic programs. Duties and responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following:
1. Provide support and leadership in the instructional and administrative daily operations of the academic programs2. Assist in the build and oversight of academic class schedules each semester3. Assist the Dean with recruiting, reviewing, and recommending the selection of staff and instructors in academic studies by following the appropriate hiring procedures and making recommendations to the Dean4. Assist in assigning faculty workloads following the policies and procedures of the College5. Assist in the preparation and management of the academic transfer departmental program budget to assure the best use of available resources in pursuit of the division’s goals6. Assist with planning and coordinating curriculum and articulation plans with four-year transfer institutions7. Support and assist the Dean in planning, reporting, and executing accreditation standards of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THEBC), the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), and other academic transfer accrediting agencies 8. Serve as a liaison between academic faculty, the Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness (OIRE) and the SACSCOC liaison by providing support with program reviews, program and student learning outcomes, state reporting, and other mandated process9. Maintain files and complete reporting requirements of the academic studies department10. Support and orient newly employed, full-time and part-time instructors in their role, including duties and responsibilities11. Assist the Dean in reviewing and evaluating the performance of faculty and staff within academic programs for the purpose of reappointment, tenure, promotion, and merit consistent with the goals and policies of Lamar State College Orange12. Recommend professional development and enrichment activities and projects for academic studies faculty and staff13. Provide day-to-day support and oversight to any instructional classrooms, computer labs, and/or labs used by the division 14. Review feedback from students and address student grievances associated with academic programs following the policies and procedures of the College

Perform other related duties as may be determined by the Dean of Academic Studies.

Qualifications:

Master’s Degree required, preferably in an academic transfer field. Doctorate Degree preferred.

Competent as a generalist in education, including 3+ years’ experience in administration at secondary or college level. Prefer college teaching experience in academic transfer coursework.

1. Knowledge of curricular alignment and program development/refinement.2. Communicate with 4-year college and university partners to expand transfer pathways. 3. Proven leadership, communication, and organizational skills. 4. Ability to demonstrate acceptance and to articulate the philosophy of the College and the academic studies division.

Extreme ambulatory requirements; extreme cognitive requirements; advanced speech communications requirements; normal written requirements; acute visual requirements; normal or corrected hearing required; and normal travel frequently. Requires constant sitting, walking, and seeing. Requires frequent standing, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying objects up to 25 pounds; operating a calculator, personal computer, and various office equipment. Requires infrequent stooping, bending, sorting and filing.
This position is security-sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215.
