Job Details

Wells College seeks qualified candidates for the full-time position of Assistant Director, Advancement Communications.  Duties include but are not limited to the following: 

  • Develop and assist the Office of Advancement’s communication and marketing plans in close partnership with the College’s Marketing and Communications Department, for outreach to alumnae and alumni and friends in support of Wells College’s engagement and philanthropic efforts.
  • With the director of alumnae and alumni engagement, and vice-president for advancement, develop a strategic communications plan that tells the College’s story in an inspiring, engaging way.
  • Produce and design materials for any ongoing fundraising efforts, including websites, case statements, solicitations, and other print and digital collateral.
  • Plan and produce content for advancement-related platforms on social media and on the alumni.wells.edu website. Perform content maintenance and updates as needed.
  • In consultation with the director of leadership and planned giving, produce planned and leadership giving marketing materials.
  • In consultation with the director of the annual fund, develop solicitation letters, emails, videos, web content, podcasts and other print and digital media.
  • Coordinating with the director and assistant director of alumnae and alumni engagement, produce the monthly e-newsletter (A2A) and collaterals in general for donor prospects including, fact sheets.
  • Produce materials for inclusion in the College’s alumnae and alumni publication, Wells Notes, including assisting with class notes information.
  • Provide logistical and communications support of advancement events, such as invitations, responses, preparation, follow up) including, but not limited to reunion, fall weekend, president’s circle, campaign events, off-campus club events, and special events.
  • Coordinate work with outside vendors (printers, webdesign, etc.) Help supervise and coordinate freelance employees, including videographers, photographers, and writers. Develop freelance schedules for major advancement events.
  • Assist in maintenance and cataloging of digital assets used for marketing purposes, including photography, digital files, and other collateral.
  • Support and assist with alumnae and alumni information management. Become proficient with using the College’s mainframe EX database system. Provide information to keep database current and accurate.

The ideal candidate will exhibit a strong work ethic and be flexible while undertaking a variety of tasks in a fast-paced office environment. The ability to self-start, innovate, meet deadlines and work under pressure is essential. The candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills; an ability to handle highly confidential information in a professional manner; above average computer skills (including proficiency with publishing software, Microsoft Office Suite, and an understanding of database systems). Above average writing skills preferred with required experience in graphic design, HTML/web design, and development of print and digital marketing and methods. Higher education or nonprofit experience is preferred.

Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field. Two to three years of related experience. Proven competency in digital marketing methods is desired.
