The Planning, Budget & Finance Office provides strategic and operational advice on the financial and budget management of the Faculty, as well as internal institutional and Faculty research data and business support services to all of the Faculty’s units. The Office models, plans, and implements the Faculty’s operating budget and provides Faculty-wide support and advice on the management of research, restricted and trust funds; financial analyses and forecasting; strategic planning and budget analysis; policy compliance and develops and delivers finance and business training seminars for A&S academic administrators and administrative staff.

Your opportunity:
Under the general direction of the Financial Officer, Faculty Restricted & Research Accounting, the incumbent is responsible for monitoring, recording, reconciling and analyzing trust accounts for the Faculty's restricted accounts and endowment funds. The incumbent will work closely with and support academic units across the Faculty of Arts & Science and the Office of Advancement to ensure that funds are used in compliance with granting agencies and donoragreements.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring, recording, reconciling and/or reporting on trust accounts
  • Verifying that supporting documentation is attached to financial records before processing in FIS
  • Handling sensitive and/or confidential information
  • Identifying and resolving individual data anomalies and discrepancies; following-up on tasks to ensure resolution of accounting issues
  • Applying the University Guide to Financial Management and other applicable policies, agency and regulatory requirements
  • Generating standard financial reports and preparing financial summary reports
  • Providing advice and data to support the development of business cases and analytics for departmental and research initiatives
  • Serving as a resource to others by providing (non-supervisory) job-related guidance

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a recognized accounting program or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum three years of recent and related experience with financial accounting in a postsecondary education or research-intensive institution.
  • Demonstrated experience with SAP-based system and with the University’s Financial Information System (FIS) and Research Information System (RIS).
  • Experience applying rules and procedures of the University of Toronto's Guide to Financial Management and the Ontario Broader Public Sector (BPS) Procurement Directive.
  • Experience applying rules and procedures of granting agencies.
  • Experience working with general accepted accounting principles.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel.
  • Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office 365 (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, SharePoint, Teams).
  • Strong analytical skill with an aptitude for numbers and details.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the abilityto multi-task and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to work with complex and/ or technical information (e.g. financial statements).
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
