Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Accounting and Finance Department welcomes applicants for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position beginning August 2022.

Responsibilities include teaching Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Intermediate Accounting, Cost Accounting, Auditing, and Personal Finance; as well as advising students, performing scholarly research, and department and university service. This person will be joining us at an exciting time for our growing college, with new majors, concentrations, and co curricular initiatives being crafted. We especially value individuals who can contribute to our business analytics degree, currently under development. Actual course assignments will depend on department needs and will include mixed modalities. Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications as well as aligned with the details contained in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (http://www.passhe.edu/inside/HR/LR/Pages/default.aspx) and the Millersville University Promotion Statement (http://www.millersville.edu/about/administration/policies/).

Required Qualifications:

  • An active doctoral candidate, with evidence of the doctoral degree conferred required to be eligible for reappointment to the third year.
  • A minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in accounting.
  • A U.S. CPA or CMA professional designation.
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness in the field of accounting (peer and student evaluations) spanning a minimum of two years.
  • A Statement of Teaching Philosophy.
  • Commitment to working with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Successful interview.
  • Successful teaching demonstration.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate in accounting.
  • Multiple professional designations (CPA and CMA).
  • Experience teaching both introductory and upper-level accounting courses in both financial and managerial accounting.
  • Evidence of current peer reviewed publications in business journals.
  • A research record related to pedagogy and student learning, consistent with Millersville’s mission as a teaching university.
  • Willingness to conduct classes through multifaceted teaching strategies for in-person instruction and/or hybrid or online modalities.
  • Significant relevant managerial experience and accomplishments.
  • Educational and/or work experience in Data Analytics.

Job Description:

TEACHING AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Effectively teach students both in assigned courses and outside-the-classroom settings (e.g., student research, service learning, etc.), advise students, and carry out other assigned professional responsibilities in support of student learning and success. The academic-year workload for full-time faculty is 24 workload hours and faculty must hold a minimum of five office hours per week on no fewer than three different days. Major responsibility is to teach undergraduate courses in financial and managerial accounting, auditing, and data analytics. Actual assignments will depend upon department needs. Faculty are expected to develop and teach day, evening and/or weekend courses through multifaceted teaching strategies for in-person instruction and/or hybrid or online modalities. All members of the faculty also have the responsibility to accept those reasonable duties assigned to them within their fields of competence. Faculty are expected, per the Collective Bargaining Agreement Article 4, to engage in professional responsibilities such as curriculum development and update; learning outcomes assessment for courses and programs; and participating in department, college, and university meetings and workshops.
Expectation to mentor undergraduate students in research or other high-impact practices, as appropriate.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:The Department of Accounting and Finance in the Lombardo College of Business is comprised of six full-time faculty members, and approximately 750 undergraduate students. The college offers BS degrees in accounting, finance, information technology, marketing, management, and business administration, and is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

Essential Functions:

  • Major responsibilities include teaching major and/or non-major courses (lectures and/or labs) in management as well as courses within his/her area of specialization in order to cover the faculty complement vacated by the prior faculty member.
  • Additional duties include but are not limited to developing a research program in management that involves undergraduates, academic advisement, as well as assessment and accreditation activities.
  • Actual assignments will depend upon department needs.
