The Tulane Hayward Genetics Center at the Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, LA is seeking a general genetic counselor to join our interdisciplinary team. The clinical team within the Tulane Hayward Genetics Center consists of two biochemical geneticists, one OB/Gyn geneticist, three metabolic dieticians and a total of two genetic counselors. The Tulane Pediatrics department has partnered with the Children’s Hospital of New Orleans (CHNOLA) and their team of a genetic counselor and geneticist. The two teams work together in caring for inpatient and outpatient genetics patients.

 

Primarily the genetic counselor will see pediatric and adult patients at our outpatient Tulane/CHNOLA and virtual care satellite clinics for a variety of indications. However, they will also provide cancer genetic counseling to the Tulane Cancer Center (in-person/virtual) and the Rapides Cancer Center (virtual care only). The Tulane Hayward Genetics Center is also home to clinical biochemical, cytogenetics and molecular genetics labs. The genetic counselor also works closely with the personnel, fellows and directors of these labs.

 

This position is a faculty instructor position. In addition to the clinical duties, the candidate is expected to instruct a semester of a master’s level course for our Tulane Hayward Master’s in Medical Genetics and Genomics. They will also provide lectures for medical students and grand rounds for other specialties within the Tulane University School of Medicine. Faculty members also participate in the Graduate Education Committee for the Tulane Hayward Master’s in Medical Genetics and Genomics.


Qualifications:
  • Completion of ABGC accredited (or equivalent) genetic counseling training program (or upcoming completion in 2022)
  • ABGC Board Certification or Eligibility
  • Louisiana license or Eligibility
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills
  • Innovative ideas and willingness to participate in new projects
  • Able to work as part of an interprofessional team
  •
