General Statement of Job


To conduct investigations for the Office of Compliance, including discrimination, harassment, and/or related retaliation complaints on the basis of: race, color, religion, national origin; discrimination based on sex or gender (including gender identity, sexual orientation, and pregnancy), and age, genetic information, veteran status; and disability or other areas as assigned.Description of Duties and TasksEssential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Conducts investigations alleging discrimination under Title VII, Title VI and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Conducts investigations under Title IX and the College's Sexual Misconduct Policy, including sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking, and sexual harassment, sexual exploitation, and gender-based discrimination, in accordance with federal and state law.
  • Conducts interviews with complainants, respondents and witnesses regarding allegations of discrimination, harassment, and/or retaliation, based on any protected class.
  • Gathers and assesses evidence, determines credibility, and communicates information regarding policy, procedures, rights, and resources to all parties involved.
  • Acts as an impartial and unbiased individual in the investigation and provides detailed reports summarizing the findings.
  • Collaborates with the Director to review and synthesize allegations to determine applicable interim measures.
  • Addresses concerns informally, as appropriate, to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Connects individuals with resources, as appropriate, and in accordance with the requirements of state and federal laws.
  • Exercises discretion and professional independent judgement regarding questions and concerns related to discrimination policies and processes.
  • Provides to the Director timely reports and information regarding the status of the investigations in progress.
  • Utilizes case management software (i.e. Maxient) for investigations and recordkeeping.
  • Communicates with all parties involved in an investigation, per ACC policy, and as allowable by law.
  • Assists with the preparation and interpretation of statistical data related to case investigations, complaints, grievances, and trends.
  • Assists with various special assignments within the area.
  • Conducts training within the College community on investigation and compliance processes.
  • Collaborates with the Compliance Education Coordinator to develop relevant education opportunities based on the current needs of the College.

    Knowledge of Title IX, Title VII, Title VI, ADA, the Clery Act, and the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). Dispute resolution, mediation, and grievance procedures. Investigation and documentation process. Higher education organizational culture, policies, and procedures. Federal and state laws regarding civil rights, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and employment law.SkillsMust possess required skills and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.


    Maintain an established work schedule which may include occasional evenings and weekends. Effectively using interpersonal and communication skills including empathy, civility, and diplomacy. Adeptness to interact effectively with diverse populations of students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders. Ability to address high stress situations, often of a graphic and explicit nature. Technology Skills


    Proficiency in Google Suite software, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with compliance case management software.Required Work Experience


  • Two years related work experience.
  • Preferred Work Experience


    Demonstrated expertise conducting workplace and civil rights investigations, preferably in a higher education setting.Required Education


  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Preferred Education


    Master's degree or higher in a related field such as student affairs, higher education, administration, human resource management, conflict resolution, labor relations, or organizational management/leadership.Special RequirementsLicenses/Certifications; Other


    Valid Texas Driver's License and reliable transportation for travel to multiple campus locations.Other Preferred Qualifications


    Training in Title IX investigations.
    Training in employment law and workplace investigations.Physical Requirements


    Work is performed in a standard office or similar environment. Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling. Ability to speak and hear clearly in conversation and general communication including telephone and face to face interactions. Occasional lifting of objects up to 10 pounds. Regular travel across a multi-county service district.Safety
