Responsibilities

The Student Program Coordinator in the Department of Student Governance & Advocacy supports programming and community building initiatives for freshman, transfer, and graduate student populations. The student program coordinator will serve on University Committees, develop strong academic partnerships, support programs and event planning, and complete other duties as assigned such as Ccoordinating programs and activities to support freshman, transfer, and graduate students to cultivate a sense of belonging, connect to academic resources, build personal and professional networks, and support students in their progress toward graduation. Activities include, but are not limited to, community building events, advocacy, semester socials, faculty outreach events, and appreciation weeks.

This position will advise the Congress of Graduate Students, attending meetings, supporting grant programs and connections with Florida State professional schools. Train and support graduate student leaders, and ensure proper documentation of meetings, legislation, and budget processes. Work closely with the accounting team to coordinate the graduate student grant program. Advise other RSOs and support graduate and transfer students. Support Freshman and Transfer Leadership Institutes, engaging students in weekly curriculum and programming, creating connections across campus for presentations and curriculum, assessing student needs, and supporting new students to Florida State University to increase their ability to be successful on campus. Develop ongoing programming and connection opportunities for student populations.

Advise Student Government entities and leaders in areas of advocacy and programming. Attend departmental and entity sponsored programs, meetings, and events; meet one-on one with top leaders and provide guidance and support. Assist students and staff with policies and procedures within the purview of State of Florida Statutes, Florida Administrative Code, Student Body Constitution, Student Body Statutes, and rules and regulations of Florida State University. Develop and maintain connections and relationships with university satellite campuses regarding student governance and policy.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience; or a high school diploma/equivalency and six years of experience.

(Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years.)

  • Experience advising multiple student populations
  • The ability to interpret and apply regulations and policies
  • Understands program design and planning, and advocacy of student leaders.
  • Be creative, student-centered, have strong multicultural competence, and be a collaborative educator.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
