Position Information

This is a full-time, permanent (probationary) position.

Special Working Conditions:

1. Travel to companies onsite (locally, regionally, nationally) and to conferences for professional development.
2. Represent Director of Career Center in meetings/commitments.

Conditions of Employment

Possession of a valid Driver's License is required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Major Duties

Under the general supervision of the Director of the Career Center, the Lead Employer Engagement Specialist will provide career development assistance to CSUDH students, alumni, and collaborate with campus partners in assigned areas; provide leadership to paraprofessional staff, assigned graduate assistants, and career consultant team members. Works closely with the Director of the Career Center to cultivate and strengthen relationships with employers to maximize student and alumni professional opportunities. In conjunction with the Lead Career Coach, provide skill-based learning, industry guidance & support, and student success development to students, alumni, and campus partners; participate in planning and development of departmental policies; provide lead work & direction to Student Employment & Career Readiness Coordinator.

Qualifications

Required Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field plus upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing and conflict resolution where such are job related.

Required Experience: Experience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent to four (4) years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience which includes experience in advising students individually and in groups, and in analysis and resolution of complex student services problems.

A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or a job‑related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling, guidance or a job‑related field may be substituted for two years of the required professional experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional, personal or career counseling.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of the policies, procedures and practices of the program area to which assigned or the ability to quickly acquire such knowledge. General knowledge of the policies, practices and activities of Student Services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned; general knowledge of the principles, problems and methods of public administration, including organizational, personnel and fiscal management; general knowledge of advanced statistical and research methods. Ability to carry out very complex assignments without detailed instructions; advise students individually or in groups on varied and complex matters; determine the appropriate course of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals and groups in personal interactions of a sensitive nature; reason logically and analyze and solve organizational and operating problems of one or several program areas; plan, coordinate and initiate actions necessary to implement administrative or group decisions or recommendations; analyze and define complex organizational, policy or procedural problems, collect and evaluate data, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action; understand the roles and responsibilities of others and to gauge relationships accordingly by taking into account the variety of the interrelationships, motivations and goals of the members of the organization served; and establish and maintain effective, cooperative and harmonious working relationships in circumstances which involve the denial of requests or the necessity to persuade others to accept a different point of view.

Required Certification: Valid Driver's License

*Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating & time-sensitive deadlines.
*Excellent computer skills & proficiency with a variety of computer applications including word-processing, spreadsheets, databases, online-systems, and others.
*Working knowledge of or ability to quickly learn University infrastructure, policies & procedures.

Responsibilities

40% Employer & Industry Engagement:

Oversee daily operations of Employer Engagement efforts to ensure they run smoothly and seamlessly. Work closely with Director of Career Center to lead engagement with internal and external stakeholders; collaborate with college success centers and faculty/staff to increase employment opportunities for students. Strategically builds & leads relationships with state, regional, national and international employers and deepens recruiting relationships with existing companies in CSUDH's employer ecosystem in order to increase hiring opportunities for CSUDH students and alumni. Advises companies on their campus recruiting strategy, and includes other CSUDH members, Workforce Integration Institute, or college success centers as needed. Presents CSUDH overview and recruitment opportunities to external stakeholders and pitches corporate sponsorships and other Career Center engagement opportunities as appropriate. Ensures sufficient student assistants or graduate interns are hired, trained, and available to support employer relations needs & engagement. Leads daily direction & work of student assistants or graduate interns in this functional area. Supports Director of the Career Center to lead the direction of the Employer Advisory Board. Works closely with Career Coaches or Events Manager/Marketing Coordinator to manage all mass employer communications (newsletters, special announcements, event invitations). Collaborate with career coaching team on career programming involving employers, as well as the on-campus recruiting support for partners or key employers with a long-standing Career Center relationship. Support and lead employer expos, fairs, or specialty event programming as needed. Data entry in CRM database supporting Employer Engagement; pull relevant engagement reports in CRM.

30% Experiential Learning and Program Development:

Build strong working relationships with academic advising, success centers, departmental faculty, and staff. Support development of career development and experiential learning programs in assigned areas, leveraging curated tools to scale reach and track engagement. Support career coaches in their efforts to foster collaboration. Collaborate with success centers, advising, and academic groups to provide services and programs that will enhance retention and graduation rates; maintain awareness of changes in curriculum. *Develop instructional materials and methods of delivery for formalized on-campus internship program, and industry & skill-based workshops and events. Determine the most suitable methods for tracking engagement with targeted groups. Recruit employers, participate in and support career expos, employer visits, and other events that increase awareness of experiential learning and career opportunities. *Use knowledge of resources related to labor and employment laws and guidelines to educate and assist career coaching team members. Assess situations involving students and employers for compliance with labor regulations and take action or elevate concerns to supervisor for action or intervention as necessary. Coordinate, assist, and participate in employer information sessions to market their employment opportunities. Recruit and market sessions to applicable students/majors; assist with tracking associated outcomes.

20% Administrative, Resource Literacy, and Lead Support:

Provide lead work & direction to Student Employment & Career Readiness Coordinator. Assist in training and ongoing professional industry & employer related learning & development for career consultant team members. Participate in the planning, development, and implementation of departmental policies related to career development services. Collect required data and assist in maintaining accurate database information. Prepare monthly reports as assigned, including but not limited to student/alumni engagement and implementation of employer relations tools & resources. Collect required data for the use in semester and annual reports. Assist in writing annual and special reports as requested. Under the direction of the Director, identify, develop, and improve industry & employer related procedural guidelines for career coaching team. Collaborate with all staff to ensure understanding of office procedures and how they interrelate with other office functions. Assist the career coaching team with the development of workshops and provide guidance regarding the most effective teaching/delivery methods. Maintain knowledge in the use of current online tools and resources that assist students with a job search and building a professional network.
