This is a 12-month tenure-accruing position that will be 10% teaching (College of Agricultural and Life Sciences) and 90% research (Florida Agricultural Experiment Station) available in the Emerging Pathogens Institute, at the University of Florida.  This assignment may change in accordance with the needs of the unit.  Tenure will accrue in the Entomology and Nematology Department.

The candidate will develop an internationally recognized and extramurally funded program in insecticide toxicology. The successful candidate will study fundamental and applied aspects of physiology and toxicology by integrating toxicological, pharmacological, electrophysiological, and genomic approaches to address broad ranging hypotheses in model insects, arthropod vectors of human diseases, and agriculture pests. Specifically, the successful candidate will research the physiotoxicology of ion channels and ion transporters that are underexplored as a means to bridge the fundamental knowledge gap that limits our understanding of insect systems. The faculty member will aggressively seek contract and grant funding to support their program and must consistently publish scientific publications both in peer-reviewed journals and other appropriate venues. The incumbent will teach Insect Toxicology in alternate years. Faculty are expected to participate in professional development activities such as training in mentoring, grant writing and intercultural competency.

The successful candidate will participate actively in undergraduate and graduate education by chairing and serving on graduate committees, supervising thesis, dissertation and undergraduate research, and publishing research results with students. Faculty are encouraged to participate in professional development activities related to teaching and advising and may teach courses and seminars.

Because of the IFAS land-grant mission, all faculty are expected to be supportive of and engaged in all three mission areas—Research, Teaching and Extension—regardless of the assignment split specified in the position description.

Required:

A doctorate (foreign equivalent acceptable) in entomology or a closely related discipline is required.  Candidates must have demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication, interpersonal relationships, and publication in peer-reviewed journals. A strong record of grantsmanship is required. Candidates must be supportive of the mission of the Land-Grant system and candidates must also have a commitment to IFAS core values of excellence, diversity, global involvement, and accountability.   

Preferred:

Research experience in identifying new insecticide target sites as well as a working knowledge of chemical genetics and the use of synthetic chemical probes of target protein function is advantageous.
