Loyola University Chicago (LUC), College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Classical Studies seeks qualified candidates for an appointment as Assistant Professor, beginning Fall 2022. The Department of Classical Studies has seven full-time faculty serving majors and minors in Classical Civilization, Latin, and Ancient Greek. The department, which is located on the university’s Lakeshore Campus, also houses a post-baccalaureate program in Classics and contributes to the training of graduate students in the humanities in the ancient languages. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in their specialty area as well as in the Core and ancient languages. The teaching load is 2-2 in the first three years; teaching loads thereafter will be determined by departmental guidelines. The candidate will also be expected to pursue an active research agenda and increase the incorporation of scientific topics in the department through new and existing courses. Applicants should also be prepared to demonstrate their commitment to the performance of service activities within the Classical Studies department.

The candidate will have a Ph.D. in Classics or a related discipline such as Ancient History or Near Eastern Studies whose research intersects with science; subdisciplines may include the scientific humanities, history of scientific thought, bioethics, the environment, technology, medicine, or material science and archaeology. The candidate should be willing to support the mission of LUC and the goals of a Jesuit Catholic Education.
