Job Details

Receives direct supervision from the CAI Facility Coordinator; works closely with faculty to plan and prioritize kitchen work; much of the work is self-directed using experience and knowledge of policies, procedures, and practices

  • Supports student instruction in an American Culinary Federation accredited culinary arts program.
  • Maintains sanitation and safety of kitchen laboratories in accordance with state codes to include sweeping, mopping, and deep cleaning of kitchens, as well as other tasks as necessary to maintain the standards.
  • Supports culinary faculty who provide instruction to individuals and groups, as directed by teaching staff, concerning kitchen techniques and use of commercial food service equipment.
  • Prepares and handles food following standardized procedures.
  • Provides assistance to faculty in the demonstration of the preparation and service of food.
  • Maintains stock of kitchen supplies and equipment.
  • Receives deliveries from vendors for the culinary programs.
  • General kitchen, laundry, and sanitation of tasks as assigned.
  • Requisitions food supplies for lab classes, per student.
  • Works independently and collaboratively.
  • Plans and organizes work to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    REQUIRED:

    ServSafe certification or proof of intent to certify/recertify; One year of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in the technical support of culinary instruction/training or equivalent experience, or substitutions for experience as described in State Classification Specifications;Knowledge and demonstrated skill in food preparation and dining room service; Ability to communicate effectively, to follow oral and written instructions from faculty and staff; Minimal capacity to lift 50 pounds and stand for long periods of time; Knowledge of standard food specifications; ability to work irregular hours including evenings & weekends;Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student body;Team Player.

    PREFERRED:
  • A.S. degree in Culinary Arts or related field;
  • ServSafe Alcohol certification or demonstrated knowledge of standard beverage specification and service;
  • Familiarity with foodservice software applications and online vendor ordering platforms;
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office applications;
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

    Full-Time, AFSCME Unit Position

    Biweekly salary: $1,707.31; Grade 15; plus a comprehensive State benefits package.

    Located in Western Massachusetts' scenic Pioneer Valley, HCC draws students from more than 70 cities and towns throughout the region and from beyond.     Programs

    Transfer

    HCC has the highest transfer rate of any community college statewide, holding articulation agreements with more than 27 colleges and universities. Many students attend HCC with the intention of transferring to a four-year college or university. And many do so after graduating-often with generous and even full scholarships-to public and private four-year colleges and universities across the country. Locally, HCC is the largest feeder institution for Westfield State College and UMASS Amherst.
