Organizational Unit Overview:

The dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication reports to the Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.

Job Duties :

Responsibilities:
Serves as the chief executive officer of the College of Fine Arts and Communication

Promotes arts education, undergraduate studies, and research and graduate programs (masters and master of fine arts)

Serves as administrator of school directors, department chairs, area coordinators; academic programs, Institute of Outdoor Drama, S. Rudolph Alexander Performing Arts Series and office directors; and associate and assistant deans

Serves as liaison between school directors, program directors, department chairs, area coordinators and chancellor, provost, and vice chancellors

Allocates resources (e.g., EPA and SPA positions; annual budgets; and special funds) to schools

Makes recommendations on the reappointment, tenure, and promotion of College faculty

Works collaboratively with other deans on priorities and programs identified through the university’s and the division’s strategic planning process

Works collaboratively with deans and other university offices in interdisciplinary programs and inter-college programs

Recommends appointment of school directors and program directors

Works with Development Officer on fund-raising initiatives

Serves as College’s chief public relations officer

Minimum Education/Experience :

An earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution in a field appropriate to the College;

Record of excellence in teaching, research and scholarly achievements, and service commensurate with appointment at the rank of tenured, full professor;

Record of successful administrative experience preferably in higher education;

Demonstrated record of ongoing activity in professional organizations;

Ability to organize, manage, and communicate effectively with a large and diverse faculty and student body;

Effective interpersonal skills;

Demonstrated knowledge of current trends and issues in the arts, arts education and communication;

Demonstrated commitment to facilitating a strong tradition of working in partnership with school districts, community agencies, and area businesses;

Demonstrated willingness to be an advocate for the College within the University and externally to a wide range of professional and community leaders, the public, and the educational systems of the state.
