The Department of Theatre is a dynamic department dedicated to comprehensive undergraduate theatre training via a program of study (BA in Theatre) defined by its commitment to breadth of understanding, hands-on experience, and demonstrated excellence in Acting, Directing, Design, Playwriting, Dramaturgy, History, Literature, and Management.
Position Summary
The Department of Theatre seeks to hire theatre designers in scenery, lighting, costume and sound from an applicant pool for the academic year of 2021/22. This posting includes multiple positions for the season.
*All jobs are on a per-show basis.
This is a non-benefited position not to exceed 1,000 hours in a calendar year.
Essential Functions
Provide working drawings and design paperwork as required for position. Applicants must be available for scheduled fittings, meetings (including production meetings and post-process review), other duties as required for the position, along with technical and dress rehearsals. Weekly production meetings can be via Zoom as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
- Ability to work with a creative team.
- Expected to take an active role in mentoring and engaging students during the production process.
Required Qualifications
All design and technical theatre professionals should possess a degree in Theatre Design/Technology or relevant field OR compensatory work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree
- PhD or ABD in theatre or relevant field
Compensation
The compensation for this position will be a stipend $2,200-3,300 depending on size of cast, venue, design requirements.
The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
