Instructional Design Specialist

The Instructional Design Specialist reports to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and has responsibility for the coordination and oversight of all instructional technology, including ASUN’s Learning Management System, Educational Software, and Assessment Technology Software. This position is responsible for planning, coordination, and implementation of faculty and student technology training, and works in collaboration with Academic Affairs Administration to ensure student learning assessment data collection and analysis. This position works in collaboration with Faculty Association, academic administration and faculty, Institutional Research, ITS and the Academic Support Center. This position will chair/co-chair both the Distance Learning Committee and the Student Learning Assessment Committee (SLAC). This role supports the College’s mission of providing and ensuring quality educational programs for ASUN’s various constituencies.

This position is a 12-month appointment and will be housed on the Newport campus but will work on all ASUN campus locations as needed.

Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education-Informational Technology, Instructional Design, Distance Learning, or related field and two years of experience in higher education, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Documented experience with Learning Management Systems and Educational Technology.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective practice in instructional design and assessment.
  • Interest in exploring educational technology.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with the Faculty Association, Deans/Associate Deans, Program Directors, and faculty to develop an on-going cohesive Educational Technology plan
  • Through the strategic use of institutional data and participation in Program Review: assesses the effectiveness of educational technology planning; makes recommendations for sustained continuous quality improvement in educational technology; develops strategies to promote college-wide dialogue and participation in the integrated planning process for growth in distance education and student learning assessment; and identifies trends that reveal institutional and student needs,
  • Provides leadership to promote excellence in academic programs and upholds professional standards of the teaching profession.
  • Works in coordination with the VCAA to develop and deploy college-wide academic integrity policies, practices, and tools.
  • Organizes and chairs a minimum of one meeting per month of the Distance Education Committee and the Student Learning Assessment Committee (SLAC) during Fall and Spring semesters and ensures participation from each Academic Division.
  • Designs, develops, and delivers workshops and online training to faculty and staff in the use of instructional technologies and educational best practices, instructional resources, instructional technologies and multimedia hardware/software to support teaching and learning.
  • Collaborates with Student Affairs and the Academic Support Center to provide access to appropriate services and resources that support student learning.
  • Develops and facilitates comprehensive training modules and ensures all faculty have completed the appropriate training modules.
  • Exercises effective administrative and management skills through collegial communication with other ASUN departments.
  • Provides effective management of fiscal policies and procedures.
  • Leads implementation of plans for assessment and improvement of student learning.
  • In coordination with the Distance Learning Committee:
    • Develops and maintains the Distance Education Strategic 5-Year Plan and aligned Handbook, monitors changing distance learning data,
    • Coordinates with Academic Affairs Administration and faculty to ensure all courses (regardless of modality) have a bi-annual course assessment report, and that all programs have an annual program assessment report on file in the Office of the VC for Academic Affairs,
    • Works with the Academic Deans/ADs/Program Directors to monitor program demands, student satisfaction, student retention, and student learning and initiates actions as necessary to ensure the quality and success of the program,
    • Develops, promotes, and acts upon policies responding to statewide initiatives relevant to Distance Education and Educational Technology,
    • Works with ITS to ensure support for faculty and students

2004 - Gift received from Walton Family Foundation in the amount of $1 million, in honor of Lindley and Kaneaster Hodges Jr.

2004 - Ground broke on a Student Community Center.

2004 - The high voltage lineman technology program was created from a partnership between ASUN and the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas.

2005 - Named by Community College Week magazine as one of the top ten fastest-growing public two-year colleges.

2006 - Ten-year accreditation granted by Higher Learning Commission of North Central Accreditation.

2006 - First fully online degree program offered - Associate of Arts in Business.

2007 - ASUN assumed operational oversight for the technical centers in both Jonesboro and Marked Tree.

2009 - ASUN enrollment exceeds 2,000 students.

2012 - ASUN hosts "First Decade Celebration" in Newport, Marked Tree and Jonesboro.

2012 - $1 million gift received from Fowler Family in support of Hospitality Services program.

2013 - Dr. Sandra Massey named ASUN's second Chancellor.

2014 - ASUN becomes fifth largest community college in Arkansas in headcount enrollment.

2015 - 2500 STRONG - In Fall 2015 beat it's all-time enrollment record with 2,533 students.
