Deadline: Sep 15, 2023 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time

The Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Informatics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for several Assistant Professor positions in either the non-tenure clinician educator track or the tenure track. Expertise is required in the specific area of biostatistical methods development and applications, with the ability to establish oneself as a research leader in their area of specialization. While both tenure and clinician-educator track faculty conduct methodological and collaborative research, tenure track faculty focus primarily on methodological research while clinician-educator track faculty focus primarily on collaboration. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree.

Teaching responsibilities may include participation in biostatistics PhD and MS training programs, as well as teaching biostatistics courses in epidemiology, health policy, and other biomedical programs. Candidates are expected to have a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include statistical methods development and contributions as a statistical leader for collaborative research studies. Candidates with experience in statistical methods for clinical trials, electronic health records, longitudinal data analysis, missing data, imaging statistics with a focus on psychiatric neuroimaging, or causal inference, and/or an interest in health disparities and health equity, cancer or pediatric research are especially encouraged to apply.

The University of Pennsylvania is a vibrant team-science-oriented environment with elite biomedical research collaborators that is ideal for biostatistical collaboration and application-driven methodological research. The Division of Biostatistics includes over 30 full-time faculty with diverse expertise spanning numerous methodological and biomedical areas, and we have strong, highly ranked, and growing MS and PhD programs in which we train the next generation of innovative quantitative leaders. The placement of Biostatistics in the Perelman School of Medicine with world-class medical, biological, and population scientists, as part of an integrated campus including the Wharton School of Business, School of Arts and Sciences, and the School of Engineering and Applied Science and other premier biomedical research institutions including the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia provides the ideal setting for cross-disciplinary collaboration and impactful quantitative research.

We seek candidates who embrace and reflect diversity in the broadest sense. The University of Pennsylvania is an EOE. Minorities/women/individuals with disabilities/protected veterans are encouraged to apply.

Vision

As engines of knowledge and new ideas, universities have the unique potential to define the future rather than be defined by it; to pioneer change rather than merely manage it. To do so requires a plan both visionary and pragmatic. The Penn Compact 2022 motivates community members to innovate, be radically inclusive, and positively impact their local, national, and global communities.

Penn’s fundamental priorities — increasing access, integrating knowledge and engaging locally, nationally and globally — are supported by the three core values that make us uniquely Penn: inclusion, innovation, and impact.
