Position Summary

Responsible for the coordination of awards programming and packaging for the Financial Aid Department. Assist students of Dallas College in all aspects of the financial aid process and help ensure the institution receives financial aid funds in a timely fashion.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of the purpose of community colleges and the vision of Dallas College.
• Experience in operational planning, policy development, and outcome/needs assessment for financial aid processing and award packaging.
• Ability to interpret, understand and apply comprehensive knowledge of innovative technology platforms related to and in support of the holistic student experience.
• Strong knowledge of federal financial programs and supporting regulations.
• Ability to identify and address opportunities and challenges that arise as a result of Dallas College’s current transition.
• Ability to balance an analytical mind and a compassionate heart.
• Strong belief in the value of education coupled with the ability to manage structured regulatory requirements alongside the personal, human-centered experience.

Physical Requirements

Minimum Knowledge and Experience

  • Associate Degree or higher. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Official transcripts required.

  • Two (2) years of experience in a higher education setting with demonstrated experience in financial aid directly related to financial aid counseling, eligibility determination, needs analysis, verification, and packaging required.

  • Ability to work extended hours beyond the regular 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. workday especially during heavy registration peak times including nights and weekends.

  • ***Will be subject to a criminal background check. Some positions may be subject to a fingerprint check. ***



Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Conducts needs analysis in compliance with federal criteria to determine the relative eligibility of each financial aid applicant.

• Conducts verification of student and parent application data in compliance with federal criteria.

• Determines the types and amounts of financial aid to be awarded through the packaging process according to federal, state, and institutional requirements.

• Demonstrated understanding of the educational, cultural and social needs of a diverse student population.
• Monitors individual student awards. Resolves data conflicts and over awards.

• Utilizes professional judgment on an individual basis to adjust a student’s eligibility based on documented mitigating circumstances in accordance with federal statutes.

• Provides financial aid counseling to students and parents regarding all aspects of the financial aid process. Make necessary referrals to other student service offices.

• Provides support to students experiencing family, personal or economic crises which may impact school performance. Specific focus on working with special needs populations to identify unique needs and coordinate appropriate services.

• Monitors and evaluates satisfactory academic progress of students. May adjudicate student appeals relating to academic progress.

• Supports financial aid training and information workshops, continuously incorporating changing regulations and procedures, Workshop settings include but are limited to: counseling/advising sessions, college success classes, high school college nights, early awareness programs, at-risk youth programs, and financial aid application sessions. Serves as a campus/community resource for dissemination of financial aid information.

• Interacts with appropriate outside entities to facilitate the student eligibility process or to conduct the duties associated with an assigned area of specialization.

• Participates in the development of institutional financial aid policies and procedures that will positively impact efficiency and quality of service provided.

• Maintains appropriate database systems and generates reports.

• Participates in annual training and professional organizations to keep abreast of new information and program changes to be implemented.

• Deploy data-informed and results oriented financial aid programs (i.e., reduction of student default rate)
• Utilize technology to access data, maintain records, and generate reports and communicate with others.
• Interpret, articulate, and implement a variety of regulations, guidelines, and procedures to ensure compliance with Dallas College, state and federal requirements.
• Prepares reports, proposals, and recommendations for overall programs; keeps detailed records of assigned activities.
• Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
