The Division of Student Success at the University of Tennessee is seeking a communications and administrative specialist.

The communications and administrative specialist, reporting to the administrative director of Student Success, supports communications, events, programming, and administrative projects related to undergraduate student success with an emphasis on ensuring students are supported during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The communications and administrative specialist assist with communications to current students to ensure they are aware of resources available to promote their academic, personal, and professional success.  This includes supporting communications related to Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds (HEERF), Vol Success Teams, and Vols Start Back.  Also supports notifications to faculty to make them aware of student absences.  Specific activities include proofreading, organizing information in Microsoft Excel, preparing documents, sending communications, and responding to inquiries or referring them to the appropriate party.

The incumbent in this position assists with administrative tasks and developing programming to promote student success.  Programming includes events and academic activities related to HEERF, Vol Success Teams, and Vols Start Back.  Specific activities include event planning, preparing documents, organizing supplies, and general office duties.

Other duties as assigned.

This is a limited duration appointment.



Qualifications
Required skills/knowledge/abilities

  • Knowledge of best practices in communication
  • Skill with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and SharePoint
  • Ability to proofread documents and make suggestions
Required level of education and experience:

    Associate’s Degree plus two years of administrative or communications experience.
Preferred level of education and experience:

    Bachelor’s degree and two years of administrative or communications experience in a higher education environment.
