SIUE is pleased to announce Open Recruitment/Testing for current/future Pipefitter positions. The primary responsibilities of the Pipefitter are to perform plumbing tasks to maintain a comfortable, safe, and efficient environment for faculty, staff, students, and visitors.

Specific duties include but are not limited to:
• Diagnose, repair, and/or overhaul refrigeration equipment, refrigeration systems, and/or temperature control systems.
• Repair, replace, and install all plumbing fixtures, and services to those fixtures, e.g. piping, fittings, valves, etc.
• Repair, replace, service, and install heating and refrigeration units and gas appliances.
• Uncrate and move plumbing equipment, refrigeration units and gas appliances.
• Repair and/or replace high temperature and chilled water lines.
• Perform an assortment of plumbing tasks to renovated or new construction spaces for offices and/or instructional areas.

Further duties and responsibilities may be assigned in support of the department’s mission and goals.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:

Certificate of completion of a Pipetrade apprenticeship under a registered Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training program;
OR
Experience sufficient to qualify as a journeyman Pipefitter, or other Pipetrade classification, with a minimum of five (5) years (60 months) of actual work in the trade, which may have included apprenticeship and/or applicable vocational training. The trade for this purpose shall include work normally performed by Pipefitters, Pipefitter Welders, Refrigeration Mechanics, Temperature Control Mechanics, Sprinkler Fitters, and/or Oil Burner Mechanics.
