GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

The Library Associate will provide general assistance to patrons in the Library while working at the service desk. Responsibilities include: checking items in and out; assisting students, faculty, and staff in the use of computer hardware and software; troubleshooting printing, copying, and other technical issues; and assisting in maintaining the physical collection. Daytime hours. The Library opens on weekdays at 7:30am; the ideal candidate would be able to start work at 7:30am some days.


DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Checking in and out Library materials
  • Assisting students, faculty, and staff in the use of computer hardware and software
  • Troubleshooting printing, copying and other technical issues on public computers and equipment
  • Troubleshooting A/V issues in classrooms
  • Inventory, maintenance, and cleaning of Library materials, campus computers, and classroom equipment
  • Assisting patrons with reserve materials
  • Moving heavy carts from Library to classrooms
  • Perform other related work duties as assigned

  • Ability to provide service in a courteous, prompt and efficient manner.
  • Use independent judgment to accommodate the needs of College students, faculty, and staff, either by determining proper action or by referring the problem to other appropriate College staff.
  • Possess strong computer skills.
  • Be able and willing to represent the College in the most positive manner with prospective, former and current students, clients, suppliers and the community

    PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

    Position involves constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing; Viewing computer screens and other types of close visual work. Frequent (34-66%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping, kneeling. Occasional (10-33%) stooping, crouching, lifting up to 40 pounds. May potentially be subject to hazardous chemicals (e.g. cleaning solvents, toner and print cartridges).

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Strong working knowledge of computers, Microsoft Office and Windows OS.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:

    Experience in a library or similar customer service settingAssociate of Arts degree or some college coursework
