San Francisco State University, Psychology, offers an exciting opportunity for two tenure-track Assistant positions in Psychology, with an emphasis in Clinical Psychology beginning August 2022. We seek candidates whose teaching and research/scholarship interests are in one of the two following areas, respectively: 1) mental health in communities impacted by racism, discrimination, and oppression, or 2) community mental health service provision, with an emphasis on equity, social justice, and family systems. We are especially interested in qualified candidates with a demonstrated commitment -- through their research/scholarship, teaching, and service -- to diversity, equality, and inclusion.

The Psychology Department at San Francisco State University is dedicated to the discovery of knowledge about human behaviors, beliefs, and emotions. Established in 1934 and serving over 1,000 undergraduate and 150+ graduate students, we seek to share knowledge with our students and with the greater community. We work in classroom, clinical, research and community settings to provide undergraduate and graduate-level training that emphasizes psychological theory, the scientific method, and the application of psychological knowledge to important real-world issues. Collectively, we promote an environment of mutual respect, transparency, and a commitment to culture, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

At the undergraduate level, the candidates will be qualified to teach on topics such as cross- cultural psychology, community psychology, abnormal psychology, clinical psychology, research methods, and/or child and family mental health, linked to student learning outcomes. At the graduate level, candidates should be qualified to provide clinical supervision and teach clinical theory and practice approaches. The candidates will maintain an active, ongoing program of research/scholarship that advances knowledge in their area of expertise.

Responsibilities: The workload primarily includes (1) teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in psychology, with an emphasis in clinical psychology, including the provision of clinical supervision, (2) conducting an active ongoing program of research/scholarship that advances knowledge in the field of one’s specialty, and (3) service contributions to the department, college, university, and profession. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, mentoring and advising graduate and undergraduate students, supervising graduate student Master’s thesis projects, holding regular office hours, curriculum development and improvement, particularly with regard to student learning outcomes, and remaining current in both subject area and teaching methodologies.



  • Hold a Ph.D. or Psy.D. in clinical psychology or related fields. Terminal degree must becompletedby the first dayof employment;
  • Hold or be eligible to hold a license to practice psychotherapy and provide clinicalsupervisionin the stateof California;
  • ecord of working and communicating effectively with colleagues and students


  • Record of teaching contributions in the areas of cross-cultural and communitypsychology, and/or psychotherapy theory and practice, with an emphasis on equity,socialjustice, and family systems;
  • Active record of scholarship related to specialty area and demonstrated potential forfundingof scholarship activities;
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate inclusion, diversity, and educational equity inteaching,and/or research/scholarship;
  • Experience teaching and working closely with students from historically under-representedcommunities;

Rank and salary: Assistant Professor. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. The California State University (CSU) provides generous health, retirement and other benefits.
