Faculty Genetic Counselor Position: Prenatal and Preconceptional Genetic Counseling



The Division of Genetic and Genomic Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, UCI School of Medicine seeks to hire a full-time Board Certified Genetic Counselor to join our clinical and academic faculty of ten clinical geneticists and seven genetic counselors. The Division provides outpatient care and inpatient consultation services to a diverse patient population in the prenatal, cancer, pediatric, metabolic and adult genetics clinics at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center and our affiliated hospitals. Division faculty members also participate in didactic and clinical training of genetic counseling students, genetics residents, medical students, and other trainees, provide community outreach, and are actively involved in both clinical and basic science research.

This position involves providing prenatal and preconceptional genetic counseling at the UCI Medical Center and our affiliated hospitals, where you will join a team of genetic counselors, medical geneticists, and maternal fetal medicine specialists who provide care for a diverse population of patients. Clinical activities include provision of services as part of the California Prenatal Screening Program and coordination of genetic counseling services through the perinatal period for complex and high-risk pregnancies. Academic activities include supervision of genetic counseling students and other trainees, thesis mentorship and didactic teaching.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Genetic Counseling or its equivalent
  • ABGC board certification or active candidate status
  • California genetic counselor license or eligibility to become licensed
  • Demonstrated capability for teaching

    At least 1 year of employment as a Genetic Counselor preferred; however, new graduates are also encouraged to apply. Diversity of background and lived experience is valued. Spanish language competency is helpful but not required.

    About the UC Irvine Division of Genetic and Genomic Medicine: The faculty of the Division of Genetic and Genomic Medicine currently comprises 7 licensed certified genetic counselors and 10 MD or MD/PhD certified clinical geneticists, some of whom are also certified in clinical cytogenetics, clinical biochemical genetics, and/or clinical molecular genetics. We are home to one of the first genetic counseling graduate programs and to ACGME-accredited clinical genetics and genomics categorical and combined residency training programs. Division faculty members are actively involved in clinical, translational, and basic science research.
