Position Summary

We seek a chemical ecologist/fishery biologist to join the laboratory of Dr. Weiming Li (https://www.lilabmsu.com/) in the Department of Fisheries & Wildlife at Michigan State University. The successful applicant will lead our research effort on sea lamprey pheromone antagonists and chemical ecology and implement our program to develop and test antagonists useful for sea lamprey control. Candidates should have broad background and deep knowledge in lamprey biology, olfactory physiology, and animal behavior. A strong background in olfactory receptors and their interactions with agonists and antagonists is desired. The candidates should have demonstrated experience and skills in integrating electrophysiological recording and behavioral assays to evaluate efficacy and potential application of pheromone antagonists in sea lamprey management.

Responsibilities: The primary duties include developing research proposals related to sea lamprey chemical ecology and pheromone antagonists, designing, coordinating, and conducting related experiments, publishing research results and drafting reports for funding agencies. Additional duties include coordinating research activities of research associates, students, and technicians, and engaging and collaborating with sea lamprey research and control community, providing service to the department and professional community, and advising graduate students.

Doctorate -Fisheries and Wildlife or in a relevant

Minimum Requirements

Ph.D., with postdoctoral training and experience in sea lamprey biology research

Desired Qualifications

Familiarity with sea lamprey control community. Excellent written and oral communication skills and experience in large scale field studies and working with undergraduate students.
