The new president of Arapahoe Community College, Dr. Stephanie J. Fujii, has announced a national search for the College’s Provost & Vice President of Instruction is underway. She invites all highly qualified individuals to apply. The College is seeking a progressive, energetic leader who facilitates a highly collaborative work environment engaging other areas to implement and actualize improved equitable outcomes for students. About The College

In 1965, Arapahoe Junior College became the first 2-year college in the greater Denver area. Ever since, ACC has been the place of choice for students who want to Move Mountains. Known as Arapahoe Community College since 1970, ACC serves the South Metro Denver Area with campuses in Littleton, Parker and Castle Rock. Each campus provides its unique community with academic supports that seriously focus on student success. About The Community

Arapahoe Community College serves three unique communities and two counties in the South Metro Denver Area. The City of Littleton, in Arapahoe County, offers spectacular panoramic views of the Colorado Rockies. Littleton embodies a strong sense of community through its historic downtown, volunteerism, entrepreneurial spirit and numerous community events. Littleton’s vibrant art community is supported by ACC’s Colorado Gallery of the Arts and makes it the perfect location for ACC’s Art and Design Center with Fine Art, Design and Technology programs.

The Parker Campus, founded in 2000 in Douglas County, is at the southeastern corner of the Denver metro area. Once an agricultural and mining area, Parker is now a thriving suburban, business, industrial, recreational and residential community. Residents make their homes everywhere from suburban communities, to ranches, to mountain tops. Students earn degrees in Psychology, Public Health and Criminal Justice or a certificate for EMT at the Parker Campus.

Thirty miles south of downtown Denver is the ACC Sturm Collaboration Campus in Douglas County. The county has been ranked as one of the friendliest, happiest, and healthiest in the nation with some of the lowest jobless rates. Castle Rock offers a small-town atmosphere, spectacular mountain scenery, and an historic downtown shopping district. The Sturm Collaboration Campus allows students to start college classes in ACC's Concurrent Enrollment Program, earn an ACC associate degree or certificate, a bachelor's degree from Colorado State University, or join with one of our community industry partners in an apprenticeship program all at one location in Castle Rock.

About The Position

The Provost & Vice President of Instruction (PVPI) is the chief instructional officer of the College and provides dynamic leadership and administrative oversight to the College’s instructional units and academic support services. The position will serve as the College CEO in the president’s absence. The Provost & VPI works collaboratively with faculty and staff to advance teaching and learning excellence as measured by student success with equity at the forefront. The PVPI guides continuous improvement and innovation of transfer and workforce programs to meet the needs of diverse students and community partners on behalf of a multi-campus college.

Essential Duties Of The PROVOST/VPI Of INSTRUCTION Include (But Are Not Limited To):

Leadership & Collaboration – 40%

  • Provides oversight and broad supervision to functional areas; meets with deans and faculty to engage and facilitate planning, review of budgets and address and reconciliation of personnel issues; provides leadership regarding assessment.
  • Facilitates innovation and commitment to the use of technology and multimodal pedagogies, equity-minded instructional approaches to promote greater access and advance student learning with diverse populations.
  • Anticipates and embraces change working in concert with faculty and other instructional staff in understanding, promoting and actualizing College and System initiatives. Seeks input and communicates regularly to all constituents to foster an environment of transparency while making timely and collaborative decisions.
  • Collaborates with others (internal & external) to brainstorm creative ideas and opportunities leveraging the talents, skills and assets of others to collectively engage and support each other in our shared interest of advancing the mission of the College.

Student Success – 30%

  • Develops and leads student success initiatives such as strategic scheduling, pathways to completion, use of early alerts and other related initiatives to advance and improve equitable student outcomes.
  • Works closely with other College leaders to implement retention and persistence strategies to increase success rates in both areas, create seamless entry and exit points for students and improve opportunities for graduation while exceeding federal, state and System performance metrics.

Program Administration & Evaluation – 30%

  • Leads and supervises the development of instruction and learning support programs; provides oversight to the College’s academic/transfer/CTE programs and assessment activities including planning, monitoring and evaluation. Facilitates and ensures compliance on accreditation.
  • Administers and advocates for continuous learning and improvements specific to the planning and delivery of instruction and learning support, including but not limited to curriculum, program and faculty/staff development; implementation of equity-minded and inclusive pedagogies; planning and delivering instructional services; coordination activities with a variety of College staff and departments; and preparation and monitoring of budgets; the use of technology in teaching and learning; assessment of student learning; assessment of changing community educational needs and development of responsive programs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Progressively responsible leadership/administrative/supervisory experience in higher education.
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience which evidences a strong understanding and facilitation of teaching and learning working collaboratively with faculty and others.
  • Demonstrated commitment working and serving diverse communities including, but not limited to, students from underserved and/or underrepresented backgrounds, adult learners, students of color, Veterans and first generation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Progressively responsible leadership/administrative/supervisory experience in community colleges.
  • Experience leading instructional strategic planning/program review, instructional initiatives/projects and assessment of student learning engaging faculty and staff to advance and improve student access and success.
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive teaching and learning environment as evidenced through a strong understanding of the complex and nuanced issues related to race, equity, diversity and social justice.
  • Desire and ability to build consensus among faculty and staff facilitating innovative improvements needed to advance the mission of the College.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a progressive, forward-thinking, energetic and highly collaborative work environment engaging other areas of the College to implement and actualize initiative outcomes.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a culture of collaboration with other units within the institution emphasizing honest and kind communication, consensus building, conflict resolution and problem solving.
  • Creative and inspiring leadership skills – a builder of teams, strategic thinker, able to prioritize initiatives, articulate a vision and provide support to colleagues regardless of circumstances.
  • Strong communicator who can effectively and positively assist the President in effectively conveying the importance of the institution as a partner to the community and region.

Salary Range

$132,000 - $146,000 DOE
