General Summary

Illinois State University invites applications for the position of Chairperson in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS). The Department seeks a dynamic Chairperson with administrative experience and a strong record of academic achievement to lead thriving undergraduate and graduate programs, which include: Fashion Design & Merchandising; Food, Nutrition & Dietetics; Human Development & Family Science; Interior Design; and Teacher Education. The Chairperson is responsible for setting vision and developing strategic initiatives as well as fiscal management, departmental accreditations, curriculum development and review, personnel recruitment, advancement, assessment, and oversight of the teaching and research laboratories. The Chairperson shall encourage high quality teaching, research, and service, and advocate for the resources needed to sustain the Department’s mission and vision. The Chairperson shall develop partnerships within and outside the university, as well as promote the Department’s programs to alumni, businesses, government agencies, and other educational institutions. The preferred start date for this position is July 1, 2022.

Salary, Rank, and Tenure: The position is a twelve-month tenure track appointment. The salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience. A competitive comprehensive benefits package is included.

DEPARTMENT OF FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES
FCS is one of six Departments and two Schools in the College of Applied Science and Technology (www.cast.illinoisstate.edu). The Department is accredited by the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) and offers five undergraduate programs as well as an accelerated master’s program (combined bachelor’s and master’s). The Department also offers a M.S./M.A. program in Family Consumer Sciences, as well as a M.S. in Nutrition. The FCS Department houses four accredited programs including: undergraduate Interior Design (CIDA), undergraduate Teacher Education program (NCATE), undergraduate Didactic Program in Dietetics (ACEND), and a graduate Dietetic Internship (ACEND). The Human Development and Family Science program is also an approved Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) Program by the National Council on Family Relations. The ISU Child Care Center is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. The Department has approximately 513 undergraduate and 100 graduate students, 24 full-time and 4 part-time faculty, 2 full-time academic advisors, 3 civil service personnel, and 4 administrative professionals at an affiliated Child Care Center. Required Qualifications

1. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in an area appropriate to FCS, with academic achievement that merits appointment with tenure at the rank of associate or full professor.

2. Applicants must have the ability to work collegially and effectively with faculty, students, staff, administrative colleagues, alumni, and professional communities served by the unit.

3. Applicants should have successful experiences in accreditation, teaching, administration, graduate education, a record of significant accomplishments in research, and demonstrated experience in grant, contract, or project activities.

4. Candidates must be able to demonstrate oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position, as mandated by state law.
