Description

The Statistical & Data Sciences Program (SDS) at Smith College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin July 1, 2022. This is a named position funded in part by a grant from MassMutual. Ph.D. in Statistics, Computer Science, Information Sciences, Mathematics, or a related discipline is expected by the time of appointment. Candidates from groups underrepresented in STEM are encouraged to apply. 

The position has a teaching load of two courses per semester, with repeat preparations being common. Successful candidates will have an active research agenda and should be prepared to engage a diverse group of students in this program of research. Areas of interest include but are not limited to: data engineering, data integration, computational social science, digital humanities, data privacy/security, data ethics, data storytelling, and data journalism. Teaching responsibilities for this position will include introductory data science, as well as intermediate, advanced, and capstone courses in data science. Candidates with experience in interdisciplinary research, collaborative project management, consulting, and data dashboarding are particularly encouraged to apply.
