General Description:

The Senior Financial Aid Advisor supports the Director and Assistant Director with processing various state and federal grant programs and loan programs, interacts with students, staff, and various federal and state agencies. Provides leadership for quality customer service support.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree

Two years of work experience in a Financial Aid Office.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Demonstrated ability to implement policies and procedures to meet compliance requirements in Federal Student Aid Title IV and State aid programs.

Demonstrated ability to provide quality service to students.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Experience with computer databases to access information and create reports.

Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Excel, Access and Word, with strong skills in spreadsheets and databases.

Proficient in the use Microsoft Outlook for electronic email communications and calendar scheduling.

Ability to work independently and reliably and ensure activities are completed to accomplish established objectives and outcomes.

Ability to establish and meet deadlines.

Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with internal and external customers.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

1. GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sedentary work: The person in this position may occasionally exert up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

2. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
This position requires the person to frequently communicate with students and colleagues to perform the essential functions of the position. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.

This position requires the person to operate a computer; other office machinery and mobile devices to prepare or copy documents.

3. VISUAL ACUITY:
This position requires the person to judge, observe and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations.

4. WORKING CONDITIONS
This position performs the essential functions in an indoor office setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience using Colleague Datatel system.

Training in student services, financial advising or communication.

Knowledge and understanding of campus-wide initiatives focused on student success.

Masters Degree in a student services program of study.

Bilingual skills.

Work Hours:

Monday through Friday 8:00 AM- 5:00 PM. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.

Job Duties (Duties Assignment Statement):

Perform processing and reporting to assess delivery of quality services and funds consistent with program requirements.

Collaborate with the Director and Assistant Director to assess the effectiveness and accuracy in delivery of Federal Student Aid Title IV grant and loan programs in compliance with all relevant regulations.

Review student files for verification and financial aid appeals.

Perform financial aid presentations on and off campus.

Support the Director and Assistant Director to ensure the Financial Aid policy and procedures address all Federal Student Aid Title IV compliance requirements.

Collaborate with Director and Assistant Director and IT staff to enhance services, efficiency and compliance through use of technology.

Communicate with various College offices as needed .

Advise Director on all matters which contribute to continuous improvement in delivery of quality services to students in compliance with Title IV Federal Student Aid and State Aid programs.

Support Director and Assistant Director in periodic review and modification of programs, services, policies, and procedures as needed to ensure continuous improvement and compliance.

Stay current with federal, state, college, veterans, and financial aid regulations, policies, and procedures to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance in the delivery of services.

Travel to appropriate conferences and training meetings.

Serve on college committees.

Contribute to a safe educational & working environment.

Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices for the purpose of providing injury and illness prevention for self and others.

Complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC’s established safety and health procedures and practices.

Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation and shelter in place drills and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.
