Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Three years of experience in an educational setting
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Superior ability to read, follow and direct others in following academic policies and procedures of Southeastern Community College, the North Carolina Community College system and partner institutions
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • High level of interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups of people in both oral and written formats
  • Ability to carry out institutional effectiveness activities and participate in the life of the college (i.e. serve on committees, do advisement, participate in activities)
  • Commitment to the community college "open door" philosophy and the comprehensive community college concept.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to off-site locations to perform essential duties
  • Willingness to participate in professional development activities
  • Willingness to participate in community outreach activities
  • Willingness to conduct processes and activities related to matriculation from/to public schools and universities

  • Primary Functions of Position

    The Early College Liaison serves as an intermediary between SCC and the Columbus County Schools and is focused on strengthening student performance and expanding students’ horizons to include postsecondary educational opportunities and career goals. Working together with the Southeastern Early College and Columbus Career and College Academy, the Liaison seeks to maintain and develop collaborations that serve to better prepare the students for college and careers. The Liaison is instrumental in facilitating students’ progress while fostering mutual learning among faculty, staff and students.

    Essential Duties:

  • Advise students in the areas of academic planning and learning support
  • Participate in the development and implementation of departmental assessment/program unit strategic plans
  • Demonstrate a thorough, accurate, evidence-based and up-to-date knowledge of the Cooperative Innovative High School guidelines
  • Coordinate textbook decisions with program peers and supervisors
  • Implement guidelines, standards and criteria related to the students’ eligibility for enrollment in different types of college courses in concert with Early College staff and SCC faculty
  • Coordinate activities related to college course-taking by Early College student, including but not limited to registration, course withdrawal, and the submission of final grades to high school administrators in a timely manner
  • Conduct outreach as it pertains to college and career goals which may include conferences with students and parents when it pertains to those students who have been identified as “at risk”, and/or have been recommended for formal withdrawal from a college course
  • Create and maintain student files, which may include up-to-date contact information, registration materials, transcripts, state test results, and signed copies of any student contracts
  • Prepare, distribute, and submit syllabi and approved addendum for all assigned sections in accordance with program and division policies to faculty at Columbus College and Career Academy
  • Develop and implement an orientation process for college instructors teaching the Early College students
  • Participate in continuing communication with the college’s instructional staff with regard to student performance and early identification of students at academic risk, beginning as early as the fourth week of college classes during an academic semester
  • Recommend to the Division Deans courses needed by Early College students for incorporation into the schedule planning process.
  • Oversee the distribution and collection of college coursework materials such as textbooks
  • Communicate to college administrators, faculty and staff the special Early College events on the SCC campus
  • Clearly and frequently communicate with the Early College Principal and High School Counselor, and supervisor, to update them, request support and ask for input that is required of them
  • Participate in events that promote SCC Early College and academic celebrations such as graduation
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and skill in completing computer operations necessary to instruction, advisement and other College recognized forms of communication
  • Maintain accurate scholastic and membership records of students enrolled in classes and prepare and submit reports as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information per the College and FERPA guidelines
  • Submit a Personal Development Plan to the appropriate Division Dean annually demonstrating responsibility for professional and personal growth.
  • When necessary, will substitute, as designated by supervisor, for other instructors in case of absence
  • Collaborate with SCC staff on the monitoring and evaluation of program data as well as data from the required state testing to assess student progress and to make recommendations to improve achievement in order to fulfill the school’s mission (i.e. improvement of a college readiness program, academic support services and completion of college coursework
  • Create and summarize survey data at the end of each semester from college course work and students
  • Report college course-taking data to supervisors at the end of each semester and annually to key administrators
  • Provide, at the end of each academic semester, a detailed schedule of college courses the Early College students have taken
  • Represent the College at community and outside organization functions/events
  • Exercise stewardship of college facilities, supplies and equipment
  • Post and maintain regular office hours to ensure accessibility for advisement and consultation with students and colleagues
  • Perform registration duties, as assigned for Early College students
  • Uphold the dignity of the profession by appropriate dress, behavior, maintenance of office and communication.
  • The Liaison shall have a designated office at the College to conduct work.
  • Perform other duties related to and within the scope of the mission of the college as assigned.

    Excellent references from previous employers must be furnished upon request. Position is targeted to be filled no later than 10/15/21. Position will be annual with a 10-month contract.

    A completed Southeastern Community College application, a resume, letter of interest addressing the position requirements and college transcripts (unofficial copies of transcripts will be sufficient for the screening process, but official copies must be submitted prior to employment) must be submitted to the college Human Resources Office in order for applicants to be considered for this position.
