Overview:

Teaches, advises and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Serves on department, college, and university committees as requested. Prepares departmental reports as requested. Engages in teaching, service, and scholarly and/or creative activities as defined by the tenure and promotion policy in the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook. Teaching, research, departmental/school and university service is expected. This position is full-time, tenure-track position.

Ongoing activities include recruitment of Native American students, faculty and staff; curricular offerings; and, student programming related to Native American Heritage month and Indigenous Peoples Day. The Master of Public Administration, as a graduate program, has been an affiliate of the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Administration and Affairs since 2013. The Department of Political Science, the location of the MPA program, develops leadership qualities in students, thus expanding the scope of their career opportunities. The institution’s educational emphasis is on faculty mentorship in student-centered education, with a commitment that respects equity and diversity. The position in Indigenous/Tribal Governance is central to the development of an initiative that strengthens Native Nation Building and Indigenous Governance in Oklahoma and beyond through the provision of professional training, leadership development and graduate education. Self-identifying Indigenous candidates may share their Indigenous heritage and community connections.

Position:

Teaches (4 classes per semester), advises, supervises and mentors graduate and undergraduate students. Actively participates in the governance of the Master of Public Administration program. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Serves on department, college, and university committees. Participates in university meetings. Prepares departmental reports as requested. Engages in teaching, service, and scholarly and/or creative activities in the field(s) of demonstrated expertise, and as defined by the tenure and promotion policy in the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Teach in the core curriculum of the MPA program at the graduate and undergraduate levels, liaise with Indigenous communities and organizations, contribute to the ongoing development of curriculum, and maintain an active research agenda. Must be willing to teach in a variety of instructional formats (in-person, hybrid, and online) as needed and appropriate. Teaches, advises, and mentors students; engages in service on the department, college, and university levels; and maintains an active program of research, scholarly, and/or creative activities.

Qualifications

Experience Required:

Applicants should have either an earned doctorate, Ph.D., and/or juris doctorate, J.D., in any sub-field related to indigenous governance/public administration and/or international relations/public administration and/or law, or a J.D. with an emphasis in indigenous/tribal law, or related area. The Ph.D. and/or J.D. must be from a regionally accredited or an internationally recognized institution (exceptions require approval from the UCO Office of Academic Affairs). Possesses excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Qualifications:

• University teaching experience.
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching.
• Demonstrated publication record.
• Developed research agenda.

Preferred Experience:

• Extensive experience working with Indigenous/Tribes and organizations.
• History of developing graduate curriculum, mentoring and advising graduate students.
