JOB SUMMARY

The International Studies Association (ISA) at the University of Connecticut announces the opening of a full-time Financial Assistant 2. The International Studies Association, one of the oldest interdisciplinary associations, is dedicated to understanding international, transnational, and global affairs. Founded in 1959, ISA’s more than 7,000 members span the globe – comprising academics, practitioners, policy experts, private-sector workers, and independent researchers, among others. The Association has long served as a central hub for the exchange of ideas and for networking and programmatic initiatives among those involved in the study, teaching, and practice of International Studies.

Under the supervision of the Director of Operations for ISA, this position will provide financial, administrative, and program support to ISA. Duties include assisting with business and personnel processes including purchasing, accounts payable, travel, grant management, and budget monitoring/reporting.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides financial, administrative, and program support for ISA.
  • Responds to and assists in resolving a variety of financial questions and issues.
  • Assists with purchasing, accounts receivable and payable, reimbursements, travel arrangements and processing for faculty, staff, and invited guests, budget monitoring, and expense reconciliation.
  • Manages invoice processing.
  • Monitors, tracks, and maintains accurate financial records, including inventory control, and prepares reports for the Director for Operations and Executive Director.
  • Prepares regular financial statements for the Unit and makes available timely and accurate financial information, including budget projections and analysis.
  • Assists with bookkeeping including those involving cash, check, credit, credit card, and ACH deposits, check payments and reimbursements, and fiscal procedures, ensuring compliance with established procedures.
  • Assists with hiring and other Human Resources/Payroll functions.
  • Assists and/or be responsible for one or more aspect(s) of assigned special projects, programs, or services, which may be ongoing or short-term.
  • Performs other program-related duties as required.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    1. Bachelor’s degree in related field and at least two years in accounting or related experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    2. Experience with account reconciliation processes.
    3. Good written and oral communications skills.
    4. Ability to handle multiple initiatives concurrently.
    5. Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
    6. Proficiency in computer programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
    7. Experience with financial processes and recordkeeping.
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    1. Experience working with financial systems and related software platforms.
    2. Previous experience in a non-profit setting.
    3. Demonstrated interpersonal skills necessary for building professional relationships and providing customer service.
    4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
    5. Demonstrated experience being responsible for multiple tasks at the same time.
    APPOINTMENT TERMS

    This is an annually renewable, full-time (35 hours a week) position. The University offers a competitive salary, outstanding benefits including employee and dependent tuition waivers at UConn, and a highly desirable work environment. Salary will be commensurate with background and experience.
