Department Information The Georgia Cyber Center is the single largest investment in a cybersecurity facility in the nation to date. The $100 million Georgia Cyber Center will help to fill the current and growing shortage of cybersecurity talent in the state and nation. The Georgia Cyber Center represents a unique public/private partnership that includes Augusta University, Augusta Technical College, the University System of Georgia's research institutions, the City of Augusta, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and other state, federal, and private-sector partners working together to meet this workforce demand and to innovate, train, and strengthen defenses.
The state-of-the-art Center is located in the growing cybersecurity corridor in Augusta, Georgia, that is also home to the U.S. Army Cyber Command and Cyber School of Excellence at Fort Gordon. The Center is located on the downtown campus of Augusta University and houses the School of Computer and Cyber Sciences.Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with six years of demonstrated and progressive experience in process innovation, organizational reform, or change management. Demonstrated success with creating technological platform or new business development. Experience in leading process improvement initiatives.Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Ability to maintain confidentiality

Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases

  • Master's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • Business and technical acumen to be able to appropriately position and advice on startups and opportunities. Strong business acumen and ability to translate technology to potential business impacts.
  • Experience in leading process improvement initiatives; business development or business counseling; and business acceleration or managing a startup.
  • Demonstrated experience and success applying concepts of innovation and product development to improve business models, processes, products, and services.
Responsibilities The Hacker in Residence is responsible for leading the discovery, evaluation, and leadership approval process for innovation at the Georgia Cyber Center. This role will establish and build relationships between cybersecurity startups, industry mentors, entrepreneurship programs and other incubators, accelerators, and other resources/programs to create a collective community and leverage common resources, relationships, and capabilities. Responsible for collaborating with cross-functional teams to distill intractable problems into discrete tasks/components and prototype solutions accordingly. This position will also track the pulse of resident partners and key innovative partners and understand what their priorities are. The duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Collaborate with internal and external cross-functional teams / stakeholders to identify and distill intractable problems into discrete tasks / components and develop interdisciplinary innovation opportunities through unique access to organizational relationships and lowered barriers to entry for developing innovation.
  • Manage and develop energetic, collaborative, and forward-thinking innovation team to assure innovative strategic programming is executed while providing oversight of team members. Work with team on innovation activities, including but not limited to challenges, lunch and learns, workshops, etc., while attracting VIP guests, to disseminate innovation culture and practice across the Center.
  • Develop growth strategies and businesses that are responsive to the emerging trends to help create opportunities outside of the existing Georgia Cyber Center portfolio, in a collaborative ecosystem affording entrepreneurs / startups to work in partnership to investigate and further develop innovative paradigm-shifting, transformational concepts that explore and capitalize on new technologies.
  • Exercise daily program-level leadership and direction to ensure development approach ad financing are structured to minimize financial and operating risk. As appropriate, restructure specific initiatives to address and improve their risk profiles.
  • Prepare and present analyses, business cases, and recommendations, and reports to advance business and innovation goals and projects that maintains a strategic alignment with associated innovation risk. Develop and recommend group objectives and strategic plans for equity in innovation and moving upstream, oversee reporting on progress toward goals.
  • Develop and enable collaborative and complementary efforts with the Georgia Cyber Center Consortium that combine science, engineering, economics, policy and technical expertise to solve complex problems for the U.S. federal government, state government and industry.
  • Define and implement an innovation management process and pipeline to source innovative concepts, evaluate ideas for business value, secure leadership and partner support, design and testing, build and pilot high-value concepts with key stakeholders.
  • Drive the strategy for how we recruit and leverage start-ups throughout the region and beyond to cultivate innovation (and develop advanced technology) as workable solutions that address the most difficult problems in our state and nation.
  • Oversee development of Makerspace strategy along with key partners and businesses to ensure success and continued operability while integrating student participation.
  • Perform all other related duties/tasks as assigned.
Shift/Salary Shift: Days/M-F; Work outside of the normal business hours may be required.
