The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (COPHS) at Butler University invites applications for an individual to serve as Program Director for the newly approved Doctor of Medical Science (DMS)-Bridge Program. This position is available as early as October 2021. DMS-Bridge Program: The department of Medical Science and PA Studies at Butler University comprises three academic programs with two degree offerings. The 24-month entry-level Master of Physician Studies (MPAS) Program has been graduating physician assistants for 25 years. The 50-credit-hour Doctor of Medical Science (DMS) degree program is a fully online post-professional program that serves PAs who are interested in building on their education with more in-depth medical knowledge, as well as those who wish to develop leadership skills and business acumen to advance within their workplace. The new DMS-Bridge Program (“Bridge”) is a 14-credit-hour program designed exclusively for PAs who have graduated within the past 6 months from an ARC-PA accredited, entry-level program, and are interested in expanding their clinical knowledge and leadership skills on their path to the Doctor of Medical Science degree. Position summary : This is a full time, 12-month administrative faculty appointment, non-tenure track, in the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. The Doctor of Medical Science Bridge (DMS-Bridge) Program Director is responsible for providing leadership, administrative oversight and evaluation of program-wide matters related to curriculum, assessment and admission. The Program Director will work closely with the department chair in supervision of faculty in activities that relate directly to the DMS-Bridge program. The Program Director is a member of the College Leadership Team. Exceptional candidates from locations remote to Indianapolis will be considered. Key job responsibilities include: Provide leadership in the development, implementation and assessment of Bridge program goals Develop and maintain policies and procedures for the operation of the DMS-Bridge Program Manage the Bridge Program annual budget Collaborate with the Associate Dean for Academic and Administrative Services in establishing class schedules for the Bridge Program Supervise and evaluate the activities and performance of assigned program support staff Provide leadership and supervision for the development, implementation and assessment of all aspects of the curriculum and admissions in the Bridge program in collaboration with Bridge program committees. Assign DMS-Bridge faculty workload in collaboration with the department chair Recruit, hire and evaluate instructors hired as adjuncts or independent contractors Provide input to the department chair in the recruiting, and hiring of full-time faculty members Orient new faculty and staff members to the DMS-Bridge Program. Teach as assigned, serve as an academic advisor to assigned students as needed, and engage in scholarly activities. Contribute to building an inclusive learning environment for an increasingly diverse student population Qualifications: It is strongly preferred the program director be a physician assistant with a doctoral degree or a physician with experience working in PA education. The candidate must be nationally certified and be eligible for licensure in Indiana. Strong preference will be given to candidates who have experience in teaching graduate medical learners and familiarity with online teaching. The program director must have the requisite knowledge and skills to administer the program effectively.
