SALARY AND BENEFITS:

The starting salary will be between $3,897.00/month and $5,474.00/month.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

The EHS Coordinator will be overseeing the campus safety inspection and hazard assessment program, tracks Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) training and chemical inventory/hazard assessment/inspection completions, and assists implement various EHS programs such as radiation safety, hazard material and waste management, PPE, and environmental protection programs. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and track EHS inspection program for both the Hayward and Concord campus
    • Manage fire extinguisher inspection program
    • Work with Facilities Management to ensure annual PM of HVAC systems are completed and tracked in TMA system
    • Work with Facilities Management to ensure emergency showers/eyewashes are inspected monthly
    • Ensure fume hoods, spray booths, and biosafety cabinets are inspected and certified annually and deficiencies are corrected timely
    • Manage and track inspections for teaching and research labs, mechanical rooms, shops, offices, and other spaces throughout campus; track and follow up on corrective action items
    • Conduct general safety inspections
  • Support Radiation Safety Program
    • Receive and perform wipe tests of incoming packages
    • Assist with semi-annual inventory inspection and leak test of sealed sources
    • Conduct monthly wipe tests of areas where radioactive materials are being used and stored
    • Send out survey equipment for calibration
    • Support Dosimeter badge program
  • Track chemical inventory completions, hazard assessments, and inspections in RSS for Science; work with various department throughout campus to complete hazardous material inventory as needed
  • Manage EHS training program; to include assigning and tracking training in CSULearn, courses conducted by EHS, and specific/hands-on safety training conducted by individual department
  • Work with various departments to track student safety training requirements
  • Conduct and track PPE hazard assessments
  • Manage and implement personal protective equipment (PPE) program
  • Support hazardous waste management program
  • Conduct inspections for SPCC, storm water protection, and FOG program; track and follow up on corrective actions
  • Support in implementation of various environmental protection programs, including but not limited to aboveground storage tanks, storm water protection (MS4), spill prevention control and countermeasure plan (SPCC), FOG, and sanitary sewer management program
  • Collect samples for lead and asbestos analyses as needed
  • Conduct safety training and respirator fit test
  • Manage and implement fume hood program
  • Maintain EHS Equipment and Supplies
    • Track and send out IH equipment for calibration
    • Maintain EHS emergency response supplies and spills supplies throughout campus
  • Support EHS Director and EHS Specialist with implementation of other programs as needed.  

 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Organize and detail oriented
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Customer service orientated
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds, walk on uneven surfaces in all areas of the campus including undeveloped locations (steep slopes), building roofs, ladders, confined spaces etc.  Must be able to wear a negative pressure full-face respirator. 

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Requires general knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs. 

PREFERRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • BS degree in Science or related field
  • Experience in EHS
