Job Description Summary:

Full-time position responsible for the administration and development of the Women’s Court Volleyball team. Recruits, selects and monitors student-athletes. Primary focus is on student athletes’ academic success, teaching the sport of volleyball at the collegiate level and development as good citizens and representatives of the College. Follows rules and guidelines in strict accordance with the NJCAA and MCCAA. Develops preliminary budget, schedule, travel and equipment needs. In conjunction with the Athletic Director, works to establish fundraising goals and promotional visibility of the College.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree
  • Extensive successful coaching experience at high school varsity level or higher
  • Experience with budget oversight, student activities and a willingness to work with students in a service capacity
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • CPR/AED Certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • College level playing and coaching experience
  • Knowledge of NJCAA rules and regulations
  • Strong communication, motivational and organization skills
  • Team-building abilities and working in a collaborative environment

Other Information:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Recruits and maintains a full roster of eligible student-athletes
  • Builds relationships with high school coaches to increase pipeline not just of interested athletes, but all potential students for SMC
  • Coaches and instructs players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport
  • Observes players, during competition and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement
  • Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met; and encourages student-athletes to maintain a high academic standard
  • Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to participate in the sport
  • Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development
  • Works with the Athletic Director and the Executive Director of Campus Life in scheduling facilities for practices and competition
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior and provides proper supervision of athletes at all times
  • Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury
  • Follows NJCAA, MCCAA and College regulations governing the athletic program
  • Maintains team statistics as required by the NJCAA and MCCAA
  • Develops competition schedule and coordinates team travel
  • Models SMC’s core values and maintains appropriate conduct towards players and officials
  • Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms
  • In collaboration with the Athletic Director, coordinate athletic fundraising efforts, including athletic camps or other initiatives and events
  • Responsible for proper budget management and for prompt submissions of accurate expense information and receipts

2. The physical requirements of this position.
Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

3. The visual acuity requirements including color, depth perception, and field vision.
The employee is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment.

4. The conditions the employee will be subject to in this position.
The employee is subject to outside environmental conditions. No effective protection from the weather.
