Salary: $42,485

This is a grant-funded position. Grant-funded positions expire either at the end of the stated term or whenever funding for the position ceases.

The College is looking for exceptional colleagues to join the MVCC community. We are currently seeking a full-time YouthBuild Case Manager. This position provides ongoing counseling support, advocacy andguidance to program members of the Mohawk Valley YouthBuild grant-fundedproject to assist them in dealing with their academic, personal, legal, andsocial service needs, especially those needs that interfere with their abilityto meet the program requirements and their personal goals. The YouthBuild CaseManager works closely with the entire staff to build the youths’ leadershipskills; serves as the lead staff member referral to community services. Thisproject is designed to provide youth of diverse backgrounds from high-needspopulation of the City of Utica with rigorous academic instruction,occupational skills training and viable pathways to college andcareers.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Assesses personal needs of YouthBuild participants and assists with finding resources to meet their needs;
  • Provides individual and or group counseling to YouthBuild participants;
  • Advocates with human service, health, court and criminal justice systems to resolve issues facing young people;
  • Makes home visits, as appropriate, to assess and support the youth’s needs;
  • Facilitates weekly rap sessions (discussions) or support groups;
  • Meets regularly with staff to develop and maintain a consistent approach/case management plan to best support and expand the personal growth and leadership skills of youth;
  • Identifies, organizes and exposes youth to cultural, political and social events or activities;
  • Keeps service records & creates and updates tracking methods addressing students plan;
  • Responsible for leadership development activities as defined by the Director/Program Manager;
  • Ensures that the leadership development philosophy and programs are being carried out;
  • Instructor assistance for all vocational classes; planning purposes, implementation and data assistance;
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Director of the Education Outreach Center.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required/masters preferred in Counseling, Psychology or related field
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ counseling, or crisis intervention experience with young adults
  • A valid driver license needed at the time of hire and for the duration of the appointment.

  • Must possess a strong commitment to helping young people succeed in an innovative training program to reorient their lives, nurture their personal/academic and leadership skills and enable them to make a difference in their community.
  • Cross training for National Center for Construction Education and Research-NCCER (based years of construction or related experience /AHLEI).
  • Ability to establish rapport and relate sensitively to a multiracial and multicultural group of young people.
  • Understanding of the issues facing young people in the community where the program is located and a willingness to learn from young people.
  • Effective interpersonal and problem-solving skills and the ability to relate to a wide range of issues, people and institutions.
  • Knowledge of human service, health, court and criminal justice systems’ programs, regulations, procedures and alternative programs.
  • Effective public speaking, use of technology, listening and written communication skills.
  • Team-oriented with a sense of humor and non-judgmental attitude.
