About the Department:

The NC State College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) has achieved national recognition in research, teaching and clinical excellence, and the Department of Molecular Biomedical Sciences (MBS) plays critical roles in all of these areas. The MBS department bridges basic and clinical research and is home to 45 multi-disciplinary faculty, as well as staff, post-docs, graduate students, and house officers. Disciplines represented in MBS include basic science fields (cell biology, physiology, gross anatomy, developmental and reproductive biology, environmental science and toxicology, genomics, neurobiology, and regenerative medicine), clinical specialties (anesthesiology, pharmacology, nutrition, and diagnostic imaging), and pedagogy. The MBS department trains both veterinary medical students and graduate students interested in research-based careers.

The MBS department’s research mission focuses on the discovery of new knowledge relevant to animal and human disease and applying these findings to enhancing health and well-being. Essential Job Duties:

MBS Department is seeking a pharmacology faculty member who is active in the fields of pharmacogenomics, drug metabolism and disciplines that contribute to these primary areas, such as metabolomics and modeling of drug disposition to predict clinical response to medications in animals and humans.

The faculty member will be expected to establish an independent research program and actively participate in the veterinary and graduate teaching programs. This position will have the opportunity to complement, and collaborate with, the existing pharmacology faculty in the college, and participate in the NC State Comparative Medicine Institute (CMI), located on the veterinary college campus. Opportunities at the CMI include new initiatives in veterinary clinical trials.
The successful applicant will also have the opportunity to interact with clinical faculty in a state-of-the-art veterinary hospital and outstanding research faculty affiliated with pharmacology.

The specific teaching requirements will be tailored to the expertise of the individual and the needs of the college.

Other Responsibilities:

Perform other duties as assigned by the department head.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D or equivalent, or Pharm-D.

Other Required Qualifications:

  • Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.
  • Successful candidates will be expected to develop extramurally funded research programs, which will include the ability to successfully write and submit proposals for grant funding.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Research training at the doctoral level.
  • Demonstrated publications in the area.
