Environmental Health Disparities Cluster Hire - Associate/Full Professor, Environmental and Occupational Health


The University of California, Irvine, Program in Public Health is seeking applicants for Professor with tenure in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health as part of the UCI Black Thriving Initiative (BTI). Through BTI, UCI aspires to become the nation's foremost destination for Black people to thrive as undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, staff, and alumni and communities served by the campus in California, the United States and around the world. The successful candidate's research program should address how environmental exposures and social stressors interact to create and promote health disparities, by addressing exposures, environmental health impacts, and/or interventions relevant to Black communities. Qualified applicants should have experience teaching, mentoring, and developing educational opportunities designed to support the success of diverse graduate and undergraduate students. Qualifications also include an outstanding extramurally funded research program in environmental health disparities. We are especially interested in candidates with experience working with a multidisciplinary team in a community-based participatory approach. This position requires a doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, DrPH, and/or MD), a strong record of research accomplishments and publications, and internationally recognized research contributions to the field.

This position is part of a UCI-wide Environmental Health Disparities faculty cluster hiring program to foster multidisciplinary collaborations that seek to understand and address the ways in which environmental stress and racism contribute to health disparities in Black communities. The cluster includes the Program in Public Health, the Henry Samueli School of Engineering, the School of Social Sciences, and the School of Medicine. In Southern California, we see extreme environmental health disparities in Black communities, including those living near the Los Angeles International Airport and the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles. The Black Thriving Initiative provides an opportunity to build the foundation for an impactful Center for Environmental Health Disparities Research that will benefit communities locally and regionally with lived Black experiences of environmental injustice.
