Job Description:

Working closely with the Lead of Student Success and Engagement and the Director of Commuter and Residential Life, the Residential Life Director and Coordinator of Student Activities and Clubs will promote Marian University’s Catholic Franciscan Mission & Identity by developing intentionally, measurable strategies to engage and support the academic and social integration of all students. This position is responsible for the support of residence halls and supervision of the Resident Assistants. This position is also responsible for shaping the environment and experiences by providing services and programs aligned with the institution’s strategic goals for a vibrant, dynamic on-campus living experience. This position helps create, organize and support activities and clubs that are designed to enhance the collegiate experience, expand horizons, support students’ development and result in positive retention and success of all students. This is a full-time, live-in, 12-month employees with paid benefits. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation through transformative education, unity in diversity, leadership through service, integrating faith and life, and institutional policies.
  • Serve as an engaged member of the Student Success and Engagement Team of ACMU and is an engaged partner with team and position partners of Marian University in Indianapolis.
  • Assist the Director of Residential & Commuter Life in supervising, training, and evaluating undergraduate Resident Assistants.
  • Provide leadership in the development of the residential community through programmatic means and one-on-one contact within the context of the current action plan to provide a welcoming and engaging experience.
  • Assist the Director of Residential & Commuter Life with projects or processes throughout the year including student staff training, student staff selection, in-service for staff, recognition and special events, as well as professional staff recruitment and selection.
  • Perform administrative duties and activities, including hall openings and closings, addressing student conduct in halls, the management of the building key systems, staff supervision, the processing of room changes, on-call duty rotation for all campus housing units, etc. as assigned by the Director.
  • Collaborate closely with the Center for Academic Success and Engagement, Counseling Center, Campus Police, Dining Services, Student Activities and Orientation, the Exchange, and Campus Ministry to connect residents to on-campus resources.
  • Serve as a driver of the shuttle routes from residence halls to designated locations in the surrounding area, including daily route/s to and from LifePlex (Monday-Saturday); collaboratively evaluate and modify routes per student utilization and survey results.
  • Demonstrate cultural competence in race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity expression, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, ability, ideology, religion, national origin, and other areas of diversity.
  • Serve as a first-responder to residents in need, referring to appropriate offices as necessary, assist in crisis and emergency situations, and complete appropriate follow up.
  • Interpret and implement Marian University and Office of Residential and Commuter Life objectives, policies, rules, and procedures for student staff and residents.
  • Participate in departmental and divisional professional development activities and serve as a role model for all residents in personal and professional practices.
  • Initiate, plan, supervise, and evaluate programming activities consistent with the goals and objectives of the Office of Residential and Commuter Life, while integrating knowledge about students into daily interactions and activities.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with campus partners to plan and deliver Welcome Week activities and other annual campus-wide events, including service initiatives.
  • Support the development of clubs and student organizations and provide leadership development opportunities for faculty and staff who may wish to be organization advisors. Provide ongoing resources and assistance to student leaders and advisors.
  • In collaboration with MarCom, create marketing materials to promote projects, activities, events and clubs. Assist in the management of related webpages.
  • Fulfill other general duties assigned by the Office of Residential and Commuter Life, Division of Student Success and Engagement, and/or Marian University.

Required Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in education, student affairs or a related field is required; a master’s degree is beneficial.
  • Previous experience with residence life, counseling, or related field is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, exhibited good-decision making skills, demonstrated leadership and supervisory abilities are required.
  • Knowledge of and a commitment to the mission of Marian University.
  • Adherence to Marian University’s policies and procedures.
  • Respectful and courteous in interactions with fellow employees, student subordinates, supervisor and all internal and external audiences.
  • Strong prompt communication skills with supervisor/s.
  • Ability to meet productivity standards.
  • Experience in developing department goals, objectives, systems and measurements that that align and support the accomplishment of the University’s strategic goals.
  • Operational knowledge and adherence to the department budget/s.
  • Valid Driver’s License and future approval of service as an institutional driver.
