About the Job
The Associate Director of CAPS (Counseling and Psychological Services) assists in administrative leadership for Counseling and Psychological Services and is a core member of the Management Team. Manages and supervises licensed professional staff, doctoral interns, and trainees. Assists in oversight of clinical operations, may conduct performance evaluations, oversees performance management concerns, and works directly with the Director of CAPS on personnel matters which may involve HR/MSO. Responsible for all aspects and oversight of the American Psychological Association (APA/APPIC) Accredited doctoral psychology internship training program for psychologists. Provides outreach, teaching, consultation, supervision, and crisis response and direct clinical service.

Key Responsibilities:

    Provides oversight of the Clinical Training Program including the responsibility for the recruitment and selection of the doctoral psychology interns each year. Ensures the design of the clinical training program keeps with the Center's mission and philosophy and in coordination with national standards, intern needs, state regulations, and APA/APPIC accreditation requirements.Provides support for clinical operations which may include direct administrative and clinical supervision for mental health staff, trainees, interns, and administrative staff.Serves as core member of the Counseling Center Management Team regarding policy making and personnel decisions. Provides clinical consultation to the Counseling Center Staff and leadership to the Campus Community around mental health emergencies.Participate in the design and delivery of outreach activities to students and staff including workshops and retreats. Develop and deliver workshops, programs, and other forms of support for university students.

Qualifications
    Doctorate in clinical psychology or counseling, postdoctoral work required.Current, valid license in California as a psychologist. Out-of-state licensed psychologists have 180 days to complete licensure requirements in the State of California.5 years (minimum) licensed clinical experience, administrative experience, and supervision of psychology doctoral interns.Demonstrated leadership and management skills with emphasis on administrative duties, as well as providing clinical and outreach services. Supervised doctoral interns, counseling psychologists, and other psychology trainees, in addition to professional staff.Perform psycho-diagnostic assessment and evaluation. Triage and crisis intervention and critical incident stress management. Individual group and couples psychotherapy.Referred clients to additional resources, if necessary.Reported abuse and complied with HIPAA. Provided interventions reflecting multicultural competence.Designed and delivered workshops, outreach, and prevention programs.Must demonstrate commitment to serving underrepresented and/or marginalized populations.Experience working with Black, African-American and LGBTQ+ communities in academia preferred.Advanced skills associated with conducting the most complex diagnosis, problem-solving and critical thinking.Assisted in reaching department objectives and organizational goals. Provided oversight of some quality assurance and risk management initiatives.Ability to work in a highly collaborative manner with diverse client group, medical staff, and faculty.Ability to deal effectively with a high level of stress, emotionality, and ambiguity. Ability to effectively weight and evaluate personal needs, student-patient needs, and the aims and policies of the Department and to respond and negotiate these competing needs, as appropriate. Ability to be both consistent and flexible, as circumstances warrant.Ability to present oneself in an appropriate personal and professional manner to students and staff. Ability to remain calm and supportive in psychological emergencies and/or crises. An advanced level of self-awareness in relation to others.Ability to receive and utilize constructive feedback regarding performance, presentation, and relationships with others.Ability to communicate effectively in writing and to prepare written and electronic documents. Ability to communicate orally, both in person and by telephone. Ability to communicate via email. Ability to use electronic medical record keeping system.Ability to occasionally travel to meetings, other campuses, and counseling sites. May occasionally be asked to work evening or weekend hours in emergency crisis response situations.Positional requires adherence to CANRA guidelines and is a mandated reporter.
