Position SummaryUniversity Information Services (UIS) provides technical services and enterprise applications to the University of Colorado’s (CU) four campuses and the Office of the President. UIS is committed to excellence in customer service and technical expertise. Through the development of enterprise applications, UIS supports the University as a whole with systems used by students, faculty, human resources employees, finance employees, and others.

The Assistant Director of Finance and eRA System Development exists to provide essential consultation to UIS and management regarding the Finance PeopleSoft module and InfoEd Tool. This includes reviewing and analyzing maintenance and enhancement requests; analyzing complex processes to define system enhancements and modifications; providing technical application support to system end users; coding, testing, and implementing batch and online computer software; and providing technical support to other internal staff. This position increases focus on testing methodologies for the Application Development team within UIS.

The Assistant Director of Finance and eRA System Development provides direct supervision to the electronic research administration (eRA) Technical Lead, the Senior eRA Developer, and the PeopleSoft Finance team to ensure operational support and collaboration with campus service partners and stakeholders in the implementation of campus priorities. In addition, this position coordinates the eRA team and vendor’s activities to achieve eRA service goals and builds lasting relationship with campus information technology (IT) partners and stakeholders. This position is also responsible for the implementation and support of eRA applications, primarily the InfoEd eRA suite, which is used by all CU campuses.

The Assistant Director of Finance and eRA Development reports to the Associate Director of Enterprise Development and is exempt from the State of Colorado Classified Staff system.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: 

  • Provides direct supervision of the PeopleSoft Grants & Finance positions, the eRA Technical lead, and the Senior eRA Developer to include:
    • Oversees performance management and hiring of the employees within the team
    • Manages training of new employees
    • Assigns and prioritizes work, sets goals
    • Maintains quality oversight by conducting regular reviews of team members’ work to evaluate for accuracy and overall delivery of services and customer experience. Provide regular feedback to team members and coach for improvement
    • Manages team schedules including leave requests, time monitoring, and approvals
  • Confirms accuracy of software by testing new and modified programs and by coordinating end user system testing
  • Creates strategic technical and strategy roadmaps for the PeopleSoft Finance Grants Modules
  • Addresses end users’ computing needs by analyzing complex processes to design new applications or enhancements to existing applications, and by writing functional and/or technical specifications
  • Creates and modifies technical documentation by writing and updating program, operations, and other system documentation
  • Consults with UIS management and team Assistant Directors to implement critical maintenance and enhancement projects by providing essential information regarding PeopleSoft technology, functionality, and capabilities 
  • Creates strategic technical and strategy roadmaps for the eRA Modules
  • Assists campus key users, System HR staff, and business process owners by answering technical application questions and resolving reported software and data errors
  • Instructs key users on the proper use and function of application programs by participating in meetings in which PeopleSoft functional and technical expertise is needed
  • Provides technical support for production services when needed, including evenings and weekends
  • Oversees internal support to UIS by instructing programmers and analysts in the principles and practices of testing methodology
  • Expands professional and technical skills and expertise by acquiring knowledge in new technologies and system development procedures and tools by attending technical classes, seminars, and end user groups
  • Manages and coordinates the following items for InfoEd:
    • Weekly releases
    • Environment refreshes and other activities
    • Technical tickets
  • Builds and maintains relationships with campus partners to establish strategy, expectations and meet community needs
  • Provides operational management and process support for the eRA team, by working closely with the Senior eRA Developer and eRA Technical Lead
  • Collaborate with UIS eRA IT team and stakeholders to understand each campus’ eRA needs and develop strategy
  • Produces operational metrics, reports, and recommendations about the eRA service
  • Communicates project status and service line updates to campus stakeholders and UIS teams
  • Participates in InfoEd user group community to share expertise, and to implement best practices at CU
  • Ensures support of the core eRA service, including the eRA application, integrations, and reports

System Administration, which also houses the Office of the President, is located in the uptown neighborhood of Denver with a few smaller offices located on the campuses.  However, this position has the ability to work remotely.  Many of our departments support the educational and research missions of the four University of Colorado campuses, but System Administration is not considered a campus. What we offer:

Salary: The anticipated hiring salary range has been established at $104,600 - $116,000.

The market salary range for this position is $104,600 - $157,000.

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or anticipated hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree from and accredited institution of higher education, or equivalent professional experience (professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis)
  • Five (5) years’ professional experience, including the following:
    •  Enterprise application development experience
    • Structured query language (SQL) experience
    • Testing enterprise application experience (e.g. unit testing, application testing, performance testing)
    • Understanding of Software Delivery Lifecycle methodology
  • One (1) years of experience in a team lead, managerial, or supervisory role, which may include any combination of the following:
    • Assigning and reviewing the work of others, managing personnel, developing/mentoring direct reports, and completing performance reviews to ensure continuous improvement, high performance, and employee retention
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or post-baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution of higher education in the field of…
  • Seven (7) years’ professional experience, as indicated above
  • Two (2) years’ experience in a team lead, managerial, or supervisory role, as indicated above
  • Experience with one or more of the following:
    • Experience managing projects, services or processes within a department with proven ability to execute decisions using strategic and tactical skill-sets
    • Experience with PeopleSoft Finance
    • Experience with Infoed
    • Functional knowledge of PeopleSoft Finance

    • Knowledge of and experience with Application Designer, Application Engine, COBOL, SQR coding, SQL against Oracle databases, and UNIX commands
