Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center (LCCC) -
part of Georgetown University Medical Center - seeks to prevent, treat and cure cancers by linking scientific discovery, expert and compassionate patient care, quality education and partnership with the community - guided by the principle of cura personalis, “care for the whole person.” Georgetown Lombardi is the research engine driving clinical cancer research at MedStar Health in the D.C. Metro area and northern New Jersey.
The Research Assistant
supports the ongoing NCI-sponsored project on DNA damages as biomarkers in cancer development and its prevention research - specifically as related to isothiocyanates as cancer chemopreventive agents. They work with tissues from animal bioassays and cultured cells for DNA isolation, perform LC-MS assay for detecting DNA damages, and work with antibodies to detect DNA adduct in tissues and cells.
Reporting to the Principal Investigator, and collaborating with several LCCC cores (such as animal facility, proteomics, and histology), the Research Assistant
has duties that include but are not limited to:
- Carries out experiments to isolate DNA from blood and liver biopsies and process them for DNA adduct analysis using chromatogram techniques and mass spectrometry.
- Prepares PowerPoint presentations for group meetings and report
- Supervises student interns.
- An experienced MS as equivalent or recently received Ph.D. candidate.
- Strong chemistry background with some training in molecular and cellular biology
- Expertise in DNA isolation and processing and familiarity with LC-MS spectrometer
