Anticipated Hiring Range

$21.00 per hour.

Salary is commensurate with experience.

Position Summary

The Lab Assistant will assist staff in preparing daily laboratory equipment for use in the College of Science & Engineering (CoSE). Duties include cleaning and disinfection and troubleshooting of performance issues. The Lab Assistant will work closely with college staff to ensure all equipment fully functions, and will report to the CoSE Associate Dean.

Position Information

Daily care of the equipment in the studio and/or laboratory, including:

1) Properly pulling the instrument from the deployment pipe.

2) Disinfecting the instrument with proper materials and preparing it for servicing.

3) Knowing to operate safely the equipment and how to perform basic service.

4) Proper use of various check standards.

5) Logging daily service of the equipment.

Troubleshooting:

1) In the event of a communication collapse the applicant must be able to contact the supervisor.

2) Ability to identify problems with equipment and to recommend solutions.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to disinfect and care for laboratory and studio equipment; ability to quickly learn and apply elementary methods and procedures to prepare equipment for use; ability to follow oral and written directions; ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position; ability to work cooperatively with others; ability to attain precise tolerances and tolerances in conducting simple tasks with the equipment; ability to distinguish colors most frequently found in laboratory work.

Preferred Qualifications

The Lab Assistant must be aware of the case and use of the different types of equipment in the studio and/or lab. The Lab Assistant must be familiar with how to safely disinfect and service the equipment and must also be aware of how to turn the equipment both “on” and “off” for troubleshooting. The Lab Assistant must possess, or be in progress of possessing, a Bachelors degree in a relevant field. Applicants must be able to lift 25 lbs.
