Reporting to the Director, the Instructional Designer supports quality assurance in the design, development, implementation and maintenance of online and hybrid academic modules, courses, and programs at Gallaudet University; guides faculty in ensuring that online and hybrid course development/delivery support student learning and success; provides hands-on support for faculty and staff teaching online and hybrid courses; works with academic directors and other program coordinators to ensure that instructional tools and design strategies reflect best practices and effective technologies for teaching deaf and hard of hearing participants; and keeps up to date and advises faculty on emerging best practices and technologies in online and hybrid bilingual teaching and learning.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:Coordinates online/hybrid course design and building process from inception to completion including the maintenance of a project plan detailing course development progression and management.Collaborates and consults with instructors, subject matter experts, GTS, and other collaborators on the effective use and accessibility of instructional design strategies, web-based resources, multimedia technologies, and instructional software and systems for online and hybrid course development.Collaborates with the instructors, subject matter experts, and other collaborators to ensure instructional integrity of the course development projects through a method of systematic design and clear course standards and objectives, while aligning with institutional, program and course outcomes.Collaborates with subject matter experts, and other collaborators to create online and hybrid learning modules, live virtual training sessions, live instructor-led training; and works with units, including Gallaudet Technology Services, Center for Bilingual Teaching and Learning, and Office of Faculty Development.Coordinates and tracks internal course reviews to ensure course qualityPlans, develops and facilitates training/workshops on best practices for online and hybrid instruction and use of educational technology.Researches, evaluates, and integrates new and emerging educational technologies for improving the hybrid, online and mobile student learning experience.Reports course development schedules and progress to academic departments and program coordinators.Researches and shares information on educational trends, teaching and learning technologies with Gallaudet faculty and staff.Coordinates and assists with the development of course databases used for course management and documentation; and identifies appropriate software, creates forms, generates reports and develops other reporting tools as requested.Coordinates the GU online teaching certification program by registering, tracking, and certifying Gallaudet instructors for online teaching.Leads major educational technology projects, and coordinates staff resources across units to support online course development.Establishes and maintains a positive and supportive working relationship with co-workers and supervisor.Shows a genuine commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace and participates in activities and workshops to foster continuous learning.Serves as a mandatory reporter under Title IX; and commits to completing Title IX training and other compliance requirements on an annual basis.Performs related and other duties as needed.
Required Minimum Qualifications (When the candidate’s resume meets these qualifications, it will be screened in):
- Bachelor's degree.
- A minimum three years of professional experience designing and delivering instructional materials for online and hybrid courses, including instructional content, learning activities, multimedia, and assessments for courses delivered to post-secondary students.
- Fluency in American Sign Language.
Preferred Qualifications (While not required, it is an advantage for what the position needs):
- Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education Technology or a related field.
- Documented experience in teaching and training.

- Excellent ability to work independently with and across university academic and technical departments and outside constituencies.
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of emerging technologies and use of multimedia in instructional design.
- Demonstrated experience with sign language media production.
- Demonstrated knowledge of multimedia instructional technologies for online education, learning management systems, and social networking applications.
- Demonstrated knowledge of effective training methodologies, principles of adult learning, and budget.

- This is a one-year extended temporary position.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
