The Marketing and Creative Science Department at Clemson University is looking for a Senior Art Director to fulfill the following duties:
- Directs, plans, develops, and implements the overall look and style of assigned projects.
- Ensures projects meet budget requirements and comply with marketing & brand guidelines.
- Execute creation of assets for print, digital, web & social.
- Directs and/or advises other designers, programmers, photographers, videographers on visual execution of concept.
- Other duties as assigned.
As a key member of the University Relations Design Services team, this individual will work closely with the Director of Design Services
and other University Relations designers on core university branding and marketing projects requiring art direction and graphic design.
Candidates should be creative problem-solvers and able to think outside the box for solutions to visual communication needs, but also
the ability to work within the defined brand standard of Clemson University.
This position will be a part of a full-service, in-house creative operation supporting the University's overall brand and will work on
projects requiring graphic design and art direction including but not limited to: print design, infographic design, marketing collateral, and
branding identity design, digital media design, social media design and email marketing. Candidates should have a great visual design
sense, an in-house creative perspective, and an eagerness to be fearlessly creative with design solutions. They should also have a firm
grasp on designing for digital contexts and the considerations that come with designing for those mediums. Candidates will be
expected to have expert understanding of digital and print production processes, limitations and specifications, and an understanding of
accessibility standards in the digital space.
The Senior Art Director will collaborate with other members of the design team, editorial team, video team and photography team to
support the overall Clemson Brand. This position will report to University Relations Director of Design Services.
55% - Essential - Design / Art Direction: Designs and directs projects using a variety of software applications for print and digital projects to create a strong visual presentation that communicates the needs of the client and audience, supports the Clemson brand and promotes the institution. Coordinates and art directs alongside photo and video teams on shoots as needed. Advises other designers, programmers, photographers, videographers on visual execution of concepts.
30% - Essential - Production: Executes production tasks using a variety of hardware and software from conception to completion of an assigned project. Writes specifications for project production as needed. Prepares files for production and checks vendors pre-production proofs. Assembles motion graphic animations, digital assets and short form video for social media as needed. Prepares and tests digital assets for social/web/email use as needed to ensure files display properly and meet accessibility compliance and compatibility standards.
10% - Essential - Project Management: Monitors assigned project through all phases of development and production and suggests changes or improvements as needed in order to adhere to time and budget constraints before final production. Documents progress of assigned tasks in UR project management tracking systems, launches and manages proof approval workflows to traffic designs internally.
5% - Essential - Pitching/Presenting/Professional Development: Interfaces with the client or colleagues to present work, offer background and explanation of the concept and advise on possible executions. Takes client/colleague feedback. Engages in development opportunities leading to personal development, professional growth and innovation in related technologies.
Education – Bachelor's Degree in graphic arts or art
Work Experience – Experience in graphic arts for print media publications
Work Experience - 5+ years in design, creative, or marketing. Extensive experience in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop is required for this role. Experience with animated graphics, illustration, email marketing, social content and 3D graphics is preferred but not required
